Gaining Our Independence

Knowing true independence and freedom.

Hello to Everyone:

Well, here we are celebrating another 4th of July Weekend; it seems like time is flying by, and I hope that you all enjoy a happy and safe summer.

This past Sunday, we spoke on the subject of “Gaining our Independence;” reviewing some of the past history of the United States of America. Over the years, many people from all over the world, from many different walks of life, came to the United States to gain their independence from the oppression they face in their home land and wanted to obtain a better life. They came with dreams and expectations of finding a new and better life for their families.

Sometimes; I believe that we take for granted, the freedom that we as Americans have in that fact that we can travel all over this great nation without the fear of being stopped at the border of each state that we cross into.

Years ago; a man named Thomas Jefferson jotted down some notes and shared them with his fellow countrymen, and they all agreed that this document should become our “Declaration of Independence” which was voted upon on July 2, 1776 and Ratified on July 4, 1776. On that day, we claimed our independence and freedom from the United Kingdom.

However; having complete independence, hinges on becoming Dependent  upon something else; let me explain.

Two of the symbols that remind us of the freedom that we all enjoy are the “American Flag” and also the “Statue of Liberty” located in New York Harbor. When we look at these symbols of freedom, we are reminded how blessed we are as a nation.

There is another symbol that I think a lot about, with regard to my independence, and that is the Cross on which Jesus Christ died to give me Freedom from my sins. That is when I realize how Dependent I am on Jesus…look at what Jesus says in His Word.

John 15:5 (NIV)
5 "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

That’s correct; He says; “Apart from Him, I can do nothing.” We cannot do anything to save ourselves from the sin that we were born into…

Romans 3:23 (NIV)
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

However; we can call upon Jesus, and ask Him to cleanse us from our sins, and in doing that, we can truly “Gain our Independence”  and at the same time, become “Dependent” upon the Saving Grace that only Jesus can provide.

Call upon Jesus today and ask Him to free you from sin, and give you true independence and freedom.

Have a great 4th and enjoy your Independence and Freedom.

Blessings:
