FAILURE TO YIELD TO ONCOMING TRAFFIC

Did I miss something ?..

More is being done today regarding student driver education.  Both law enforcement and driving schools have become more stringent than ever before when it comes to safe driving.  Especially with the new challenges of texting while driving, the unlawful driving of friends as a youthful driver and faster and bigger vehicles (SUVs), operating on the road today has certainly become much more of a science than an art.  HOWEVER, with all of this sophistication and "improvements" to our rules and regulations, have we abandoned some of the basic fundamentals?  Let's take for example, one of the most common causes of accidents.  The infamous "cutting in front of the path of on-coming traffic".  Am I the only one who sees this?  Like I said before, "Did I miss something"??  In Massachusetts, I believe that under Chapter 89 Section 8, "Any operator intending to turn left, in an intersection, across the path or lane of vehicles approaching from the opposite direction shall, before turning, yield the right-of-way until such time as the left turn can be made with reasonable safety..."  As far as I know, this is still being taught....or is it.  There is not a day that goes by where I find myself "defending" my safety as a driver decides that he/she is going to "beat me" in this race to go nowhere.  I have gotten to the point where I almost expect it.  To me, this is basic fundamental rules of the road and in some cases, courtesy.  The sad thing is, that it is not just limited to youthful drivers, I have seen this dangerous activity being committed by all ages and genders.  With so many NH drivers in our state, I was curious as to whether they also have this law.  Sure enough under NRS 484B.253..."Vehicle turning left.  The driver of a vehicle within an intersection intending to turn to the left shall yield the right-of-way to any vehicle approaching from the opposite direction which is within the intersection or so close thereto as to constitute an immediate hazard..."  So there you have it....We have not gone completely crazy and done away with good common sense laws, its just that some drivers have gone crazy having no regard for safety on our roadways....Be Safe Out There...!!!
