Library Notes: Scary Programs & Presidential Programs This October

Paranormal Investigators. Zombie Experts. The Gravestone Girls. A Retired Secret Service Agent. A Political Humorist. Presidential Biographers. Dinner & A Movie Nights!

Registration is required for all events.  Please register online using our Calendar of Events or by calling 978-640-4490 x 205.  All events are FREE and sponsored by the Friends of the Tewksbury Public Library.  (The Tewksbury Lions Club co-sponsors all movie nights.)  All events are held in the Meeting Room.  Doors open at 6:45pm.

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 2, 7pm: Fright Nights: Explore The Cemeteries of Tewksbury

The Gravestone Girls – Massachusetts’s renowned cemetery educators who “keep the dead alive” – will present a virtual tour of Tewksbury’s nine local cemeteries.  Their presentation is built on recent photographs of these special and interesting burying places around town, while charting the evolution of cemeteries and gravestones from the colonial era into the 21st century.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 4, 7pm: Presidential (re)Treats: A Celebration of 200 Years of Political Humor in America

Actress Judy Bernstein will perform her one-woman show – “A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The White House.”  Enjoy the light-hearted side of American politics!

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 9, 7pm: Fright Nights: A Supernatural Evening – The White House & Other Famous Haunts

Worldwide paranormal star Jeff Belanger, author of 16 books including Weird Massachusetts and Who’s Haunting the White House?, will return to the Tewksbury Public Library to host his annual “Supernatural Evening.”  Signed copies of Jeff’s books will be available after the event.  

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 12, 7pm: Dinner & A Movie: Dark Shadows

The library will be serving dinner and screening one of Hollywood’s latest DVD releases – “Dark Shadows” (PG-13).  The horror comedy, which grossed $79.7 million at the box office, stars Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Helena Bonham Carter. 

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 16, 7pm: Fright Nights: Zombies 101 – Prepare For The Apocalypse

Zombie Research Society members Steven Schlozman, MD (author of The Zombie Autopsies) and Peter Cummings, MD (author of The Neuropathology of Zombies) will discuss their knowledge of and passion for zombies.  Signed copies of their books will be available for purchase after the event.

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 17, 7pm: Presidential (re)Treats: Barack Obama For Beginners

Bob Neer – author of Barack Obama For Beginners and co-founder of the popular “Blue Mass Group” political blog – will explore Barack Obama’s personal and political life.  Signed copies of Bob’s book will be available for purchase after the event.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 18, 7pm: Presidential (re)Treats: The Real Romney

Scott Helman – co-author of The Real Romney and Boston Globe staff writer – will explore Mitt Romney’s personal and political life.  Signed copies of Scott’s book will be available for purchase after the event.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 25, 7pm: Presidential (re)Treats: Protecting The President

Jim McNally, a secret service agent under President George H.W. Bush – will reflect on his exciting career on the front line.  Bring your questions to this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 26, 7pm: Dinner & A Movie: Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter

The library will be serving dinner and screening one of Hollywood’s latest DVD releases – “Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter” (R).  The horror film, which grossed $37.3 million at the box office, stars Benjamin Walker. 

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 30, 7pm: Fright Nights: Meet The Paranormal Investigators of Boston

Have you ever met a real ghost hunter?  Here’s your chance!  Members of the Boston Paranormal Investigators will be on hand to discuss their organization, research and equipment.
