Thursday, April 11, 7pm -- Dinner & A Movie: Lincoln (RR) - ENCORE

Friday, April 12, 10:30am -- Author Visit: When Everyone Went To The Movies! (RR)

Meet Arthur Singer, author of Boston's Downtown Movice Palaces, for an information-packed, fun-filled, highly interactive trip through film history!  Filled with memorable pictures, stories, and film clips including:

-  Boston’s unique role in the development of the movie business -- from the earliest showings of moving images  to one-reel nickelodeons of the early 1900’s to the road shows of the 1960’s
- The Palaces – from the mighty Metropolitan to the art deco Paramount
- Boston Pioneers – including  Thomas Edison and Vaudeville’s B.F Keith
- What the movies meant to thousands of immigrants in the early part of the century
- How the movie palaces helped people through the Depression and the World War II years
- Opening nights, sneak previews, double features, newsreels, kiddie shows, Cinerama
- How many of the city’s great movie theaters were saved and restored

Tuesday, April 23, 7pm -- Online Safety For Teens & Pre-Teens: What Every Parent Needs To Know (RR)

Meet author Anthony Vaver as he discusses his recent book -- Bound With An Iron Chain: The Untold Story of How the British Transported 50,000 Convicts to Colonial America.  Most people know that England shipped thousands of convicts to Australia, but few are aware that colonial America was the original destination for Britain's unwanted criminals.  In the 18th century, thousands of British convicts were separated from their families, chained together in the hold of a ship, and carried off to America.  Learn what happened to these convicts once they arrived -- did they eventually prosper in an environment of unlimited opportunity, or were they ostracized by others and doomed to live in poverty?  Book signing after talk.  Limited to 100 seats.  Register HERE.

Meet author Roseanne Montillo as she discusses her recent book -- The Lady and Her Monsters: A Tale of Dissections, Real-Life Dr. Frankensteins, and the Creation of Mary Shelley's Masterpiece.  The book brings to life the fascinating times, startling science, and real-life horrors behind Mary Shelley's gothic masterpiece, "Frankenstein."  Montillo recounts how - at the intersection of the Roamntic Age and the Industrial Revolution - Victor Frankenstein was inspired by actual scientists of the period: curious and daring iconoclasts who were obsessed with the inner workings of the human body and how it might be animated after death.  Book signing after the talk.  Limited to 100 seats.  Register HERE.
