Eight Tewksbury Athletes Are Finalists for Hood Scholarship

A total of 18 students nationwide will be honored for their hard work with a $5,000 scholarship.

There are plenty of student-athletes in the halls of Tewksbury Memorial High School deserving of recognition.

Eight Redmen in particular are close to receiving that recognition thanks to the annual Hood Sportsmanship Scholarship Program. But they need the community's help.

Eight Tewksbury students are finalists for the national award, which will give the 18 winning entries $5,000 each.

Residents are encouraged to vote for the winner now through April 18 at 3 p.m. Each entry includes an essay on why the participant should be selected for the scholarship.

Tewksbury's John Melloni, for example, tells the story of how he overcame a knee injury to lead to the Redmen football team to an undefeated state title.

He's joined by classmates and fellow Hood finalists Bridget Blair, Meaghan Blaisdell, Nicole Hamel, Taylor Lirakis, Jennifer Maddaleni, Eddie Matovu,  and Jonathan Zervas as Tewksbury's representatives in the contest.
