After two years on the job, Principal Robert LaRoche of Fitzgerald Elementary School in Waltham, and former principal of Dewing Elementary in Tewksbury, has announced his resignation.

LaRoche left Tewksbury for the Waltham Public School District back in 2012.

In an interview with Tewksbury Patch at the time, LaRoche said he wanted to work in school with a wider ranger of grades than Dewing, which offers only kindergarten through second grade.

“I liked the vision that Waltham is presenting,” LaRoche told the Tewksbury school committee at the time.

LaRoche will be leaving Waltham for a similar position at the Hosmer Elementary School in his hometown of Watertown, according to an email sent to Waltham Patch.

“I had every intention of staying in Waltham for many years and this decision was not an easy one to make. An opportunity opened up in Watertown and some friends encouraged me to apply for the position. It is ultimately a situation that would allow me to finish my career in education where it began in Watertown, which is where I was raised,” he said.
