Schools will be closed in Tewksbury on Thursday due to the impending storm.

Tewksbury Public Schools will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 2 due to the impending storm expected to dump between 6 and 12 inches of snow on the Merrimack Valley.

When an announcement has been made about Tewksbury closings for Friday, we'll post that.

Tewksbury students have been on winter vacation for the past 12 days.

The storm is expected to begin during the day on Thursday and may drop 2-4 inches on Thursday. The snow should stretch into Friday with multiple Boston area forecasters predicting 6-12 inches of snow by the time the storm ends on Friday.

Post any other cancellations or postponements due to the storm in the comment section below.

So ridiculous to cancel school for a few inches tomorrow. Sticking it to the working parents!!!

This is wise decision by the school department. Call off school for today and almost certainly tomorrow. Keep the kids safe. Keep the busses off the roads so the plow operators can do their work safely and efficiently. It also makes good economic sense. Don't heat up all the buildings for one day and then shut down for three days. The total number of school days will not change. Many towns are calling of school. I am glad that Tewksbury is one of them.

I agree Bob...Win/win kids are home safe and the town saves money

Good call. Driving this morning and the roads were a mess with only half an inch or so. I always thought they should have started back on the 6th like the Tech. Crazy to open 2 days then close for 2.

It was a very good call. I was out at 6 a.m and the roads were horrible.. Also, out at 9:30 a.m. and very very slick. It is not sticking it to the parents it is the safety of our children. Respect the peoples decisions. I am sure it was a tough one to make.

It's like 9 degrees out now for Pete's sake.....everyone that 'can' just stay in and be safe!

Why did they have school in the first place? Seems like they should have just show down until Jan 6th anyway.
