Tewksbury students can add Thursday to their list of snow days this year.

Tewksbury Public Schools announced on Thursday morning around 5 a.m. that due to the incoming storm, school is closed for the day.

Multiple news organizations added Tewksbury to their list of closures at about 5:20 a.m., including CBS Boston and MyFoxBoston.com.

This marks the second straight week that schools have been closed for a day due to a winter storm.

Bob, good point but why Tewksbury schools are always the last schools to send the notice of cancellation? Last storm for example most of the Middlesex county called it off early and Tewksbury send the notice late at night? There gotta be a happy middle where the families are not getting the alarming 5:30 AM calls! Parents don't mind the excessive half days and teachers workshops, so having winter storm blew out to sea and the kids having a day off wont be an issue because it is often the exception not the rule.

My guess is that they are gun shy after the McGrath years where she called it if she thought she couldn't make it from Gloucester. I don't mind the 5:30 call as I am already up and getting ready for work. It is a tough call and either way they open themselves up to a percentage of the population being upset. If they call off any more, they will need to start looking at shortening April vacation or eliminating it all together like other towns are now talking about. They have to get the 180 days in.

Same with me . I am already up for work too as I start work @ 7 am . As someone posted above about the half day / professional days . Enough with that too ! Creates a real inconvenience to families who have both parents working full time and faced with the dilemma of what the hell to do with the kids for the remaining four hours of the day ! Not everyone has the luxury of working from home or working half days . I would be willing to bet that most employers cringe at half days . I know mine certainly does and also the frequency of missed / half days that they have certainly doesn't afford most people time off from their jobs . I am pretty sure most people have limits to the time they can take off !

If i think that school may be called off, I shut off my house phone ringer so the phone doesn't wake up the whole house at 5am. When I wake up in the morning, I check my cell phone & the message is there. Then I can go back to bed without waking anyone up. If rather they wait until the morning to have the most accurate forecast before school gets extended to July...
