Aubuchon Royals Knock Off Mets but Fall to Rays

Indaisn squeeze past Braves in Junior Division play.

Intermediate League

Aubuchon Royals 12 – Custom Craft Mets 7

The Royals came up with another win led by strong pitching from Alyssa Mecurio who pitched 5 innings and had 5 strikeouts. The Royals fielders were tough and right fielder Jacqui Marchant rushed in to catch a short fly ball to make the third out in the second inning. Marissa Doherty caught a high fly ball to make a key out. Offensively the Royals bats were hot with Sarah Bishop and Amanda Ford getting strong hits.

Aubuchon Royals 8 – Byette Insurance Devil Rays 11

It was a very close game, ending after 5 innings due to lightning, but the Royals never gave up. Marissa Doherty pitched 3 strong innings with 2 strikeouts. Second baseman Molly Hodgson made 2 aggressive outs in the 2nd inning and in the 3rd inning the Royals made a spectacular double play with pitcher Marissa Doherty catching a fly ball, throwing it to first baseman Paige McGaffigan who tagged the base and made the out. The Royals showed great base running and Teagan Trant and Riley Cote had great hits to advance the runners.

Dovetail Construction Corp. Angels 17 - Custom Iron Craft Mets 0

The Mets lost to the Angels despite great contributions from many players on the team. Key defensive players for the Mets: Sydney Papandrea who contributed two outs at second base, Jasmin Flores with a dramatic catch in left field and Stefani Cunningham with a key stop in left center field. Offensively, the Angels pitching shut down the Mets offense but the Mets players came out swinging. Pitchers for the Mets were: Jaime Hajjar, who struck out two batters and Michelle Maciel, who struck out three batters.

Elia’s Country Store Diamondbacks 13 – Atamia VW Honda Nationals 11

The Elia’s Country Store Diamondbacks kept battling, the hits kept coming, and the final outcome, another come from behind win, this time against the Nationals. Down 6-3 in the 4th, the Diamondbacks scored 5 runs on 5 hits and held the lead due to great pitching from starter Dayna Salibe and closer Sydney Quinn. Defense also played an important part for the Diamondbacks. With runners on base in the last inning, third baseman Brooke Lamothe made a key force out at third to end a Nationals rally. Second baseman Tayla Spezzano, third baseman Sarah Murray and Quinn at shortstop also make great defensive stops for the Diamondbacks. Sluggers for the Diamondbacks included Irene Houde (2 RBIs), Jennifer Campbell (2 RBIs), Sarah Benson (2 runs), Julia Hartnett (hit, run), Lauren Crupi (hit, run) and Shannon Vasas (2 runs).

JR. U10 League

Mckesson Corp Braves 13 - C&A Awards Indians 16

Hannah Knoops pitched two strong innings with 1 K and caught a pop up in the third inning. The Braves bats were hot led by Danielle Howe going 4 for 4 with 3 RBI's and 1 run scored, followed by Christina Spezzaferro going 4 for 4 1 RBI and 4 runs scored, and Becca Smith going 3 for 3 and 2 RBI's

 

McKesson Corp. Braves 6 - Wicked Cheesy Pizza Dodgers 10

The Wicked Cheesy Dodgers beat a very tough Braves team, behind the strong pitching of Abigaul Naugler, Gianna Ragucci and Brigh Cote. Defensive stand-outs for the Wicked Cheesy Dodgers include Cote and Ragucci who both made outstanding catches that led to double plays to end offensive threats by a touch Braves team. Molly O’Neil and Sarah Polimeno made strong debuts behind the plate to anchor the pitching rotation. Offensive stars for the Wicked Cheesy Dodgers were Amber Kelly and Ragucci who led the way with key hits and runs contributing to the victory.

Christina Spezzaferro pitched 3 strong innings with 4 K's, Jessica Caredeo was solid behind the plate nabbing a foul ball in the second inning, Jamie Quintilliani also had a great night behind the plate catching a foul ball pop up and an unassisted play at the plate in the third. Jessica Smith had the hot bat going 3 for 3 and 1 run scored.

Wicked Cheesy Dodgers 12 – Tewksbury VFW Post 8164 Giants 6

The Wicked Cheesy Dodgers continued their winning ways with an impressive win over a tough Giants team. Helen Johnson and Gianna Ragucci pitched well for the Wicked Cheesy Dodgers, despite dealing with a spirited Giants team, as well as a driving rain. Key contributions from Danielle Norton and Sabrina Pendola at the plate helped stave off the Giants who showed great pitching and played stellar defense.

Wicked Cheesy Dodgers 11 – C&A Awards Indians 5

The Wicked Cheesy Dodgers beat a very good Indians team, in what was a great team effort. Helen Johnson and Gianna Ragucci pitched 2 strong innings each, holding a very balanced offensive Indians team in check. Molly O’Neil, Sarah Polimeno and Emily Morabito each had key at bats, getting on base and scoring key runs after the Indians took the lead early in the game to pace the Wicked Cheesy Dodgers offensive attack. Abigail Naugler and Brigh Cote played excellent defense, making key plays in the field to ensure a Wicked Cheesy Dodgers victory.

McKesson Corp. Braves 16 - Mr. Gutterman Cubs 17

Hannah Knoops pitched 3 strong innings with 4 K's The Smith sisters were unstoppable with Jess leading the way going 4 for 4 with 2 RBI's and 3 runs scored, Becca Smith also had a great night going 4 for 4 with 3 RBI's and 1 run scored. Emma Spezzano had a great defensive night with a putout at second base in the third inning and a putout at first base in the 4th.

Senior League

B&M Office Installations Astros 8 – Silva Brothers Construction Tigers 8-3

The B&M Office Installations Astro's beat a strong Silva Brothers Construction Tigers team behinds 7 solid innings of pitching from Kelsie Bradley. The defense behind Kelsie was the best it has been all year with Devlin Frost, Colleen Kelly, Jamie Ray, Becky Keough & Lindsey Cossar kept the runners off the bases & the Offense was lead by the bats of Kayla Porzio, Carly Downing, Kylie Forgione, Cara & Gina Maniscalco.

Aurora Salon Athletics defeat the Silva Brothers Construction Tigers

The A's gained an early first inning advantage in this contest and were able to maintain that lead to earn the victory against a short-handed Tiger team. Lauren Barletta and Alyssa Hand split the pitching duty and each contributed a solid performance on the mound while scoring 3 runs apiece to help with run support. Kaley O' Neil reached base in all four trips to the batters box and crossed home plate 3 times. Loren Sullivan added 2 singles, a double, and drove in 3 runs. Defensive play of the game went to Melissa Markwarth who made a fantastic catch on a deep fly ball to left field before she proceeded to fire a strike to third base to double up a Tiger base runner in the fifth inning.

Dry Wall Limited Orioles 9 - Aurora Salon Athletics 8

This game featured several lead changes and was tight throughout before the O's plated the winning run in the bottom of the sixth and secured a hard fought win. Both teams were on top of their game and Lisa Petrowski led the charge for the A's going 6 innings on the hill, accumulating 9 strikeouts along the way. Christina Keefe had the clutch hit in this one, launching a double to right-center field that knocked in 3 runners and enabled the Athletics to even the score in the bottom of the fourth. Christina Morris was aggressive at the plate and reached base twice with a single, a walk, and a run scored. Loren Sullivan continued her hot streak adding a single, a double, and 2 rbi's. Nicole Petherbridge logged 4 innings at catcher and did a great job defensively, holding Oriole base runners tight to the bag and helping to keep her team close in this contest.

J&B Butcher Padres 18- Aurora Salon Athletics 17

The Padres,sponsored by J&B Butcher, put it all together tonight with an 18-17 come from behind win over the Athletics. Rachel Kelleher pitched a great last 3 innings facing only 7 batters in the 5th & 6th. The big defensive play of the game came in the 6th when Meagan Timmins went to the fence in left to recover a very hard hit ball and relay it through Anna Sessa to Amanda Sciavone to get the batter out trying for a triple. Haley Acconcia scored 3 times but in the end Jackie Noftle came up big in the bottom of the 7th for a walk-off single to score Alexsay Zemetres and the game winning run. It was a very hard played game by both teams.

The Athletics suffered their 2nd consecutive heartbreaking 1-run loss against a fired-up group of Padres players. Meghan Arsenault provided stellar defense at first base all night long and was the defensive player of the game. Kaley O' Neil came through with a big hit down the first base line that plated 2 huge runs and enabled the A's to grab a 3-run lead going into the bottom of the 7th inning. Chelsea Grant delivered a long double to right-center resulting in 2 rbi's. Grant, Alyssa Hand, and Lisa Petrowski (2 singles, 2 runs scored) split the assignment on the pitchers mound and threw the ball extremely well. The Padres players reached deep and worked hard to score 4 runs in the bottom of the 7th to gain the victory in this exciting game.

J&B Butcher Padres 10 – Dry Wall Limited Orioles 13

The J&B Butcher Padres came on strong at the end, 6 runs in the 7th inning, but couldn't top the Orioles in a 13-10 game. Jackie Noftle pitched the first 3 innings allowing 1 run. Amanda Schiavone had many throws to 1st from 3rd this game, and Stephanie Giles made a great running catch in the 5th. Nora Butler hit a towering triple to start the scoring in the 7th inning and Haleigh Roy was struck by 2 pitches during the game, scoring once. Even though they did not win it was a great performance for the team.

J&B Butcher Padres 10 – Gateway Car Wash Twins 12

The J&B Butcher Padres played a hard fought battle of wills against a good Twins team finishing on the short end of a 12-10 score. Meagan Timmins pitched a 1-2-3 2nd inning. Haley Acconcia had a good stop at second resulting in an out and for the second game in a row Anna Sessa made a fantastic catch at short. Stephanie Giles had a 2 RBI single in the 3rd and Rachel Kelleher had an RBI double also in the 3rd.
