Bring The Stanley Cup to Tewksbury!

Tell us why you believe the Bruins show make sure Lord Stanley's treasured trophy should make a stop in Tewksbury this summer.

Give credit where credit is due.

Matt Schooley, the esteemed editor of our sister publication, Wilmington Patch, has launched a public relations campaign to try and convince the Boston Bruins that at some point over the next few months, the Stanley Cup should be brought to Wilmington, or more specifically, Ristuccia Rink, for a public viewing.

As Matt points out, tradition dictates that the players, coaches and staff have the chance to spend at least a day with Lord Stanley's hallowed trophy, bringing it anywhere they would like.

And we certainly agree that The Cup should be seen and touched and photographed by as many fans as possible. But my dear friend Matt is wrong on one key point. If the Cup is going to make an appearance in the Merrimack Valley, then it must, of course, appear at the in  TEWKSBURY!

Now, don't get me wrong. Wilmington is a nice enough little hamlet and I've even been known to grab a burger at Sonic. But the key phrase here is that the Bruins are Stanley Cup Champions. And of course, the Bruins should make sure the Cup is surrounded by other champions. Say, for example, the Division 2 State Hockey Champion Tewksbury High Redmen!

Not to mention the fact that Bruins equipment manager Keith Robinson is a graduate of ... wait for it ... !

So here's the deal folks. It's time to show your support for an effort to convince the Bruins and their staff that the Stanley Cup needs to make an appearance in Tewksbury.

In the comments section below, tell the Bruins and their staff what kind of hockey fans we have here in Tewksbury. Tell them how badly you want the Cup brought to town and what type of a reception it will get here. In short, convince them that Tewksbury is a "Must-Stop"

You can also email your convincing arguments to williamg@patch.com

Post your comments no later than 9 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22 and we will forward all your comments and emails to the Bruins.

Bring the Cup to Tewksbury!

Is this instead of Ristuccia or in addition to? That's like their official practice rink or something like that...

Hi Sarah ... here's the thing .... Wilmington Patch is lobbying hard for the cup to go to Wilmington ...I wouldn't object to it going to both towns. But I think Tewksbury definitely deserves a visit.

I saw flags, signs and things written on cars and did i happen to mention the tewksbury boys hockey team won!! that alone deserves a visit to tewksbury. I for one would love to see the cup. i was at the parade and wished I was able to get up and close.

Driving thru the Center of Tewksbury I noticed the town sign mentioned the local team won the Champioship. What better recognition for the guys than to show them what the big guys won ? It would have been nice to have it for the ring ceremony.

The dream of winning Lord Stanley's Cup starts in youth hockey... In March, at a Boston Bruins game, Tewksbury Youth Hockey was awarded the 2011-12 Mike Cheever Grow Hockey Development Grant for their effort in growing the sport of hockey in our community. Tewksbury is obviously a hockey town that deserves a visit with the Cup!

Tewksbury won the Division 2 State Championship - they're winners just like the Bruins. It would be nice to gather the TMHS Hockey Team as well as the residents who supported them and host a visit from the Bruins and Lord Stanley's Cup. Tewksbury Deserves it!

Tewsbury community has been clamouring to get Bruins gear. We honored our Tewksbury High Div 2 Champs. Our children would love the oppurtunity to see, touch and feel the Stanley cup. I grew up watching Bobby Orr. I love the Bruins as does the rest of the state but we will be thrilled to have the cup in Tewksbury

Here's what things look like over the border in Wilmington! http://patch.com/A-j6nJ

If the dream of winning the Stanley Cup starts in youth hockey then they better move to Canada since that is where most of the players are from, 21 of the 32, only 4 of the players are from the USA.
