DCL Officially Invites Tewksbury, Three Others, to Switch Leagues

Tewksbury High expected to accept invitation and leave sever longtime affiliation with Merrimack Valley Conference.

Westford high principal Jim Antonelli this afternoon announced that four schools have been invited to take the next step toward leaving their respective leagues and joining the Dual County League in time for the 2013 seasons.

Representatives from Tewksbury, Billerica, and Chelmsford from the Merrimack Valley Conference and North Andover from the Cape Ann league will meet with DCL athletic directors on May 23 to begin planning the transition.

Although Antonelli termed next week's meetings "interviews," the four schools invited were narrowed down from a list of 10 applicants.

Next week's meetings are believed to be little more than a formality in the long-discussed move to the DCL for Tewksbury and the three other schools.

"We felt like these four programs were the best fits based on geography, enrollment, philosophy and quality of their sports programs," Antonelli said.
