Despite Knee Injury, Tewksbury Native a Leader for College Team

Amherst College will open the NCAA tournament on Friday.

Megan Robertson may have only played in 15 games this season. But she certainly made her impact felt on the Amherst College women's basketball team.

Robertson, a Tewksbury resident, still leads the Lord Jeffs in a variety of categories, despite not having played since January 17 when she suffered a knee injury. Not coincidentally, Amherst College suffered its first loss of the season that day against Tufts after Robertson played just three minutes.

On Friday night at 5 p.m., Amherst takes on Springfield College in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

Unfortunately, the Lord Jeffs' junior standout will be unable to help in that game. She underwent knee surgery near the beginning of march, according to the Amherst Student.

Despite playing in only 15 games, Robertson is still the team's leading scorer with 12.9 points per game. She also will end the season as the leading rebounder for Amherst, pulling down 8.7 boards per game.

The Phillips Academy Andover graduate, who has been to the Final Four her previous two seasons, was recognized for her strong 2013-14 campaign already.

Robertson was named to the Capital One Academic All-District women's basketball team for her performance on the court and in the classroom.
