Eagles Take The Sting Out Of Hornets; Knicks Trim Celtics

TBBL Intermediates

 Eagles 25-Hornets 17

You could tell it was our first 8:00 game. The Eagles came out flat and slow, scoring only 6 points in the first half, but keeping things close with good defense. The energy level picked up a bit in the third quarter, after Evan McCarthy got his first basket of the year off one of his many rebounds. The Eagles then put it away in the fourth quarter, with Aaron Whitehouse scoring 5 of his team-high 9 points, including a nice 3-pointer. Jeff D'Entremont played his best game of the year, knocking down three short jumpers for 6 points and playing nice defense. Nick Catizone also scored 6 points, including 2-for-2 from the foul line. Cory Mello added 2 more points to round out the Eagles' scoring. Nick Chinappi, Elijah McTiernan, Justin Brown, and Alex Kelleher all played well but didn't score...lots of nice passes and picks though, and solid defense as always.

 The Eagles and the Hornets both played a very good game. It was close right up to the last 4 minutes of the game when the Eagles were able to pull it off to get 3 quick baskets. Trevor Breen was the high scorer for the Hornets with 6 points. Drew Fletcher had 5 points, Zach Karnell with 4 and Nick Heintz with 2 points. Kevin Carroll, Danny Nguyen, and Paul Farias played strong defense. As an overall team they played hard and gave it their all.

Friars 34 Jazz 23

Josh tirrell led the friars with 25, followed by Sean barker with 5 and a mass of rebounds and blocked shots. Jeremy sencabaugh had 2 points with great ball handling. Next was mike sarno with 2 points great defense and rebounding. Also playing great defense and rebounding zack Bennett, Adam fandel, jay Gandhi and matt marquis.

The Jazz played hard against the Friars and made a lot of great passes but just couldn’t find the basket. Having some nice blocks and working hard on defense was Patrick Moge who played well in his Shooting Guard position. Richard Aronson (2 pts) and Josh Pelletier (2 pts) stayed to the side

Of the net and covered most of the low block area with great enthusiasm and speed. Playing hard as team Center was Benjamin Connors (4 pts) who covered under the hoop and played nice offense around the top of the key. Overall it was a great team effort and many nice plays were made by all

Bobcats 46 Sonics 33

The Bobcats had to work hard against a very scrappy and aggressive Sonics team, but pulled out a decisive win in the end. It was a close game for three quarters until a few ‘Cats caught fire and found their shot in the 4th, and the team pulled away to seal the victory. Leading with 11 points was the team’s big man Leo Frisella who dominated underneath the glass and tossed in several second chance points. Assisted by Matt Boudreau and Nick Borges, forward Nolan Higgins made several nice outside swishes adding 10 to the totals. Set up by Kevin Carta and Dainel Derosa, guard Matty McLaughlin drove through the defense to put in 9 points. Always open on offense, Ryan Nickerson couldn’t miss and buried 8 points. Ahkil Bagul put in 6 with his signature hook shot from the paint. Rounding out the total for the team Robert Page put in 2 points and pulled down several rebounds to keep the team in the game.

Bucks 44- Raptors 22

The Bucks continued their winning ways with a hard fought battle over the Feisty Raptors. This Bucks victory was a TOTAL TEAM effort. The defense was immense Jimmy Wink had numerous take aways, keeping the Raptors offense off balance and NOT letting them have scoring opportunities. The rebounding was great as well Jonathan Fuller controlled the Glass on both sides of court. As always Jared Ward controlled the point guard position as a floor general. Balance scoring from all the members of the Bucks team. The scoring was lead by Patrice Wild who had 12 points. Jonathan Fuller 10 points and Raymond Humphrey 4 points. Kevin Cooke pitched in with 4 points and the balance of the scoring was Dereck Stienbrecher 4 points, John Henry Dvorak 2 points, Kyle Strong 2 points, Jared Ward 2 points. The Bucks are looking forward to next week’s game against Eagles.

Raptors Coach-

In their sixth game of the season, the Raptors came up short to an excellent Bucks team. Missing from our game was Scott Mazzapica, & we ended up playing short-handed after an injury forced Mason Brown out of the game early in the second quarter. Hayden Brown scored the first basket of the game and ended up with 4 pts for the game, also scoring for the Raptors were Mason Brown (4 pts), Cole Westcott (4 pts), Chris Chiccarelli (2 pts), & Kyle Crowley (8 pts). The whole team was tired due to having to play so much of the game but the Raptors rose to the challenge with great defensive moves by all including, Bradley Richardson & Jason Molea. The Raptors would like to thank the Bucks & their coach, Paul Wild for an exciting game and for Paul's assistance in helping to carry Mason off the court when his injury occurred.

EAGLES 42 RAPTORS 40

In a game for the ages, the Eagles squeaked out a victory in overtime, 42-40, over a very good Raptors team. Every time the Eagles pulled ahead, the Raptors came storming back, dominating the boards in the second half and forcing overtime. Aaron Whitehouse was the hero in OT, scoring the tying basket with about 5 seconds left and then stealing the subsequent inbound pass and knocking down a basket to ice the game with 2 seconds left. He was also team-high with 21 points, including an impressive 5-for-6 from the foul line. Nick Catizone scored 6 points, Jeff D'Entremont 5, Alex Kelleher 4, and Cory Mello, Justin Brown, and Elijah McTiernan 2 each. Evan McCarthy played his usual solid defense and pulled in a number of big rebounds, and Nick Chinappi showed great ball movement and nice team-play, setting a number of nice picks.

Raptors Coach

In their third overtime game of the season, the Raptors came up short by a basket. Offensively, the Raptors played great basketball with scoring from Hayden Brown (10 pts), Chris Chiccarelli (6 pts), Kyle Crowley (4 pts) and an amazing 20 points was scored by Scott Mazzapica. Defensively, the Raptors helped to keep the score close with great plays from Bradley Richardson, Mason Brown, Cole Westcott & Jason Molea. From start to finish this was an exciting game played well by both the Raptors & the Eagles. The Raptors would like to Thank the Eagles for such a great, exciting game.

Bucks 37 Bobcats 20

 The Bobcats played an exceptional Bucks team and were handed their first loss of the season. The ‘Cats played hard and put up a solid fight even being faced with a reduced roster that got worse by multiple injuries.

In the end the exhausted remaining players fell short of clawing out a comeback. Center Robert Page continued his strong inside game and led the scoring totals with 11 points, assisted by Nick Borges, Kevin Carta and Ahkil Bagul. The team’s other center Leo Frisella followed with 7 points, including a long range 3 pointer set up by Nolan Higgins and Daniel Derosa. Ryan Nickerson found his shot and buried a nice 2 point swish, assisted by Matt Boudreau, to round out the team’s total.

Jazz - 24, Celtics – 20

The Jazz had nice dribbling and ball passing skills against the Celtics. Running quickly down the court and working hard offensively helped the team pull ahead. Working hard as team forward was Jack Callinan who kept himself open to score 6 points for the team. Jacob Cofer who moved around the court as team shooting guard scored 2 points while team Point Guard Joe Dulock scored a nice 8 points. On the defensive end was Johnny Melanson who showed a lot of effort at blocking passes by the opposing team. Standing strong in the Key was team center Matthew Mitchell who showed a lot of effort at keeping the Celtics from scoring the easy lay up.

Celtics Coach:

The Celtics rallied in the final quarter to come within four points of thier first win of the season. Jonathan Zurawski and David Scarpa led scoring for the Celtics with 8 points and 6 points respectively. Also contributing buckets were Jeff Moore, Josh Snyder and Jimmy Strickler. Dave Gammon and Will Small contributed solid defense play and forced numerous turnovers.

Hornets 25 Bullets 16

The Hornets came out playing hard against the Bullets. Kyle Curtin and Trevor Breen werer the high scorers for the Hornets with 6 points a piece. Drew Fletcher, Paul Farias, Nick Heintz all scored 4 points. Kevin Carroll has 1. Danny Nguyen and Zach Karnell played excellent defense to hold off the Bullets. As for both teams it was a very exciting game. Both teams gave a stong effort.

Bullets Coach-

Another tough loss for the Bullets. Despite a tough first half,

the boys battled back in the second half going after the ball

with more tenancity. The Bullets still came up short of their second win.

Bucks 37 vs. Bobcats 22

In Saturdays day game, both undefeated teams displayed great passing and shooting skills. In spite of the Bobcats stout defense, the Bucks won 37 to 20. Paddock Wild led the team in scoring with 14 points.Forward Kevin Cooke showed great passing skills, getting the ball around the Bobcats to his teammates. Jimmy Wink showed good defensive skills by boxing out the opposition under the net. Guards Kyle Strong (2) and John Henry Dvorak provided great defense during alternate quarters keeping the Bobcats offense in check. Jonathan Fuller (9) led the team in rebounds always being in the right place at the right time for the turnover. Jared Ward (8) did a great job finding the open lanes moving the ball down court to set up offensive plays. Derek Steinbrecher (4) showed his skills at setting “picks” and keeping the lane open for his teammates. It was a well-played game by both teams.

Junior Division

Cavs 18 Clippers 16

Despite playing their best game yet, the Clippers were edged by the Cavs, 18-16 Saturday night. Andrew Ferreira had a fantastic game, dominating defensively while sinking four baskets for 8 points. Patrick Dunn contributed with 4 points while Matthew Brennan and Joshua Seghrue each sank a basket. Strong efforts were turned in by the entire team, including Matthew Pelletier and Richard Kramer who were busy hustling at both ends of the floor. Sean Mackenzie continued to look good handling the ball on offense. Owen Gilligan and Tyler Paulding were quite busy grabbing rebounds and playing great defense against a skilled Cavs team.

Mavericks 12, Eagles 11

In an unbelievable battle to the very end, the Mavericks pull off a win against the Eagles. Although both teams played solid defense, key rebounds from Andrew Enringis, Jared Gray, Steven Nickerson and Shawn Manson gave the Mavericks the winning edge.  Kyle Marrocco, Anthony Miano, Evan Wood and Shawn Manson pressured the Eagles’ guard resulting in several important turnovers.   Chris Zdinak and Evan Wood both scored 4 points each with additional points from Steven Nickerson and Derek Leffler.

Eagles Coach-

Despite a great effort the Eagles lose their first game to the Mavericks 12-11.   The defensive stars of the game were Andrew Froio and Fran Pino with several steals.   Ryan Joyce had several rebounds. Jacob Bragg, Nathan Jones and Matt Ferreira all hustled on offense and defense.   James Reardon lead the team with 5 points, Nick Perriera had 4 points and Patrick Killion scored his first basket in the Junior League.   Despite being down by 5 points going into the final quarter the team battled back, but could not pull ahead of the Mavericks.

76ers 24 Warriors 16

The 76ers played a strong consistent hard fought game winning by a score of 24-18. 76ers played great defense starting with Arya Mehrabani, Rich Cappiello and Dominic Cohen. The 76ers also displayed great passing, dribbling and rebounding skills throughout the entire game. 76ers scoring finished with Adam Hines (6pts.), Zach Hines (6pts), Paul Manzi (6pts.), Jon Mahoney (4pts.) and Nick Cappiello (2pts). Great job guys!!

It was a tough game for the Warriors (3-3) who lost to a very talented 76ers team. The Warriors fell behind early before starting to mount a comeback with great defense from Tyler Strong, Zack Lalonde, and Jack Keneally. With big rebounds from Jason Richardson and Alec Strangman to keep it close. Leading the Warriors in scoring was Nick Stephens (8pts), Nate Wilkinson (6pts), and Derek Wallace (4pts). Mike Bankowski who also displayed great hustle missed a big shot towards the end of the game. Warriors showed great toughness down the stretch but couldn’t over take the tuff Sixers team.

Spurs 26 Wizards 18

The Spurs came up with their first win of the season in an exciting 28-17 win over a tough Wizards team. This was a total team effort and a strong defensive performance was turned in by Josh Winter, Jared Doyle and Jack Bieren. The scoring was spread around the whole game with season high points for Brandon Melo pouring in 12 and Justyn Lester with a strong 8 points. Also, scoring were Jake Winter and Logan Singleton with 3 points each as well as Sean Phaneuf with 2. This was a great two way game for the Spurs players with the result ending in victory. Way to go guys, AWESOME job!!!!

The Wizards played a tough game against the Spurs but were defeated with a 26 to 18 lost.  Leading the Wizards in the scoring was Ryan Meuse with 8 points.  Travis Macmurdo tossed in 6 points.  Sahit Bolla chipped in with 2 points.  Dominating the backboard was Noah Lamonica with 6 rebounds.  Setting great picks at the guard position was Ryan Hunt.  Nicholas Brooks played great defense with numerous steals.  Ryan Bennett displayed aggressive defense. Also, Diego Monteiro and William Andella provided many defensive rebounds.

Cadet Summaries

Raptors 22 Hawks 17

Raptors defeated the Hawks 22 - 17.Brady Lanes season high of 6 points came early and matched later in the game by Michael Wilson's 6 points. Raptors were down a teammate today and with Henry Pestanas finger injury in the third quarter the Raptors had to put in the extra effort to maintain the lead while fresh players came in from the Hawks bench. Not enough could be said about the raptor defense making some great plays for early turnovers.  Richie Raso, Christian Marsden and Ryan Rosenberg lead this effort.

Tommy Crawford , Brady Lane and Christian Marsden added the remaining points to the scoreboard.

Hawks Coach-

The Hawks slow start led to a big Raptor lead that was tough to overcome. The Hawks’ offense was led by Center Rory Power 12 points, Sean Murphy 4 points and John Ragucci 1 point. Solid passes made by Sreetej Digumarthi and Michael Cronin. Derek Munroe quick defensive Hustle led to some offensive breakaways. Brady Litton played point guard during part of the game and dribbled the ball well. Paul Tower, Sean Connelly and Jack Shreenan played well on defense.

Suns 19  T-Wolves 8

The Suns played a good team game on Saturday in defeating the T-wolves.

Sam White and Joey Pazyra led the scoring with 8 points and 6 points respectively.  Damien Hadden and Cody Mercuri had good games stealing the ball and playing solid defense. Gavin Thomasett and Brady Eagan chipped in with 2 points each and combined  for 14 rebounds limiting the T-wolves second chance points. Logan Frost and Max Tyler played good defense grabbing some rebounds.

Doug Renna followed up a great game from last week with a solid game Saturday

Getting 2 points and 4 rebounds. Robert Cortes played a good game as usual rounding out the scoring with 4 points.

T-Wolves Coach-

After a slow start, the T-Wolves mounted a comeback behind the hustle of Joey Arsenault, Johnny Norwood and Derek Wilkinson at the guard position and Brandon Wood, Shayne MacDonald and Abhi Lingareddy down low grabbing rebounds to keep it close.  A nice give and go from Kyle Breen to Jack Panilaitis (2 pts) closed the gap to 4 points. Domenic Valway (4pts) and Luke Maresca (2pts) added some offense on a day when the rim was not kind to the home T-Wolves. The T-Wolves battled with everything they had but came up short in the end.

Sixers over Rockets

Offensive scores this week from Kyle Adams, Adam Favreau, Michael Kelly, Drew Timmons, Gaige Dobson and high scorer Danny Fleming.  The team really came together this week with impressive passing and teamwork.  Dhruv Kaushal, Michael Duggan, Cole Kimtis and Corey Butler all had offensive basket attempts and played relentless defense.

The Rockets played very well today and showed great improvement in their game against the Sixers. Offensively the Rockets were led by Logan Reinhard's four points followed by Mahir Bagul and Cam Pereira who scored two points each and Colin Goggins who chipped in with one free throw. Jordan Mackenzie had a very good offensive game with several near made shots at the basket. Defensive standouts for the rockets were Josh Astudi, Alden Lentz, and Jack Stadtman. Devin Stoddard continued to be an outstanding rebounder on the defensive as well. Michael Sullivan played an all around great game with several steals on defense and good ball handling on offense. Mahir Bagul also contributed with great passing, rebounding and defense. Logan Reinhard also had an excellent game rebounding on offense. 

Knicks over Bucks

The Knicks produced their best team effort of the season to hold off the Bucks and remain undefeated.  The offense was led by Justin Murphy (8 pts) and Aiden Lefler (6 pts) while the defense was anchored by Ethan Fleming who grabbed 4 rebounds to go with 4 steals.  With the game close in the 3rd quarter Trevor Trodden hit a tough jumper and was fouled.  Nick Polimeno came back and hit a beautiful jumper from the same spot a minute later and the Knicks were able to hold on from there with Daedon Bere rebounding and controlling the point.  Will McKay, Cole Duffett, and Ben Svendsen all scored for the Knicks as well.

The Bucks scoring was led by Jake Aylward with 6 points on some great outside jump shots and Adam Gallagher with 6 points with Elias Melki adding in 2 points.
