Four Tewksbury Teams Receive Playoff Assignments

It'll be a busy week for Redmen fans as two hockey teams and two basketball teams open postseason play.

Tewksbury Memorial High School fans will have plenty to cheer about this week.

The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association released its playoff pairings this week, and among them are four Tewksbury teams.

Highlighting the group is the Tewksbury/Methuen girls hockey team, which skated to a nearly perfect record of 19-1-0. That was good for the No. 1 seed in the Division 2 tournamnt and a first round bye. The locals will take on either Wayland/Weston or Sandwich in its first game.

Despite a loss to Wilmington to close the year, Tewksbury's boys hockey team snagged the No. 3 seed and a first round bye in the North Division 2 tournament.

The Redmen will play either Masconomet or Revere in the quarterfinals. The game is slated for 8 p.m. on Friday night in Woburn. The winner will take on either North Reading, Marblehead or Haverhill in the semifinals.

On the hardwood, Tewksbury's 13-7 record was good for the No. 8 seed in North Division 2. The Redmen will host Arlington on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in the first round. The winner will play either top seed New Mission, Burlington, or Malden Catholic in the quarterfinal round on Saturday.

The girls basketball team is also playoff bound. Tewksbury is the No. 7 seed in North Division 2, hosting Wakefield on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.

Number two seed Bedford awaits the winner of that match up in the quarterfinal round in a game scheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m.
