The Lynx fell to a resurgent Monarchs squad on Saturday. The 1st quarter was a back and forth effort with the Lynx getting many scoring chances in the quarter. Jessica Caredeo looked great coming off an injury to sink one and Sarah Milne got clear on a shot in the paint to sink her 1st basket of the season resulting in the 4-4 tie after one. In the 2nd quarter, Kendall Donahoe playing defense in a box-and-one set held the Monarchs tenacious guard at bay for most of the quarter but in the final minute she was able to get free for a couple of baskets. The halftime score was 10-4. In the 2nd half defense was the key and there were only 3 points total scored by both teams. Janine Richardson was solid nailing 1 of 2 free throws and grabbing 5 rebounds on the day. Caredeo led the Lynx in steals with 4. Overall solid effort and the Lynx look to continue to improve on the offensive end.

COMETS 14 LIBERTY 4

Find out what's happening in Tewksburywith free, real-time updates from Patch.

The Comets got back on the winning track this weekend against the Liberty. This was probably our best offensive effort of the season, spreading the scoring around to four different players, Bridget Burgoyne, Lizzie Gallella, and Leanne Durham all had 4 points and Kiley Tibbetts scored 2. We have scored more points this season, but it was nice to see scoring spread around. Once again our defense was strong holding the Liberty to just four points. Madison Bourassa Morgan Woodman and Meghan Ostertag continue to play very tough defense on the top of the zone. Shannon Crowley Leanne Durham Kiley Tibbetts, Bridget Burgoyne and Lizzie Gallella have been very tough with the interior defense and rebounding. A nice solid win for the Comets.

Although the score does not reflect it, the Liberty played one of their  best games of their young careers.  They continue to show improvements each week in all areas of the game—there was some excellent passing and ball handling happening on offense and on defense, they played aggressively and worked hard to slow down the 1st place Comets.  They  managed to keep the Comets to only 4 points in the 1st      half.  A few turnovers in the 2nd half led to the Comets taking a decisive lead, but the Liberty played their tough defensive game right to the end.  Scoring for the Liberty were Rena Ruggiero and Rebecca DeFrancesco, with 2 points each.  Madi Sjostedt, Caitlyn Fiore, Faith Mazzipica and Halle Carciofi played tough defense at the top of the key which led to many turnovers and steals.  Working hard down low were Alexis Hillis, Rena Ruggeiro, Kendra Waugh and Julia Garland and Hailey Bedley and Rebecca DeFrancesco controlled the paint.  The entire Liberty team is named Defensive players of the game!

SPARKS 26 MERCURY 11

The Sparks extended their winning streak to 2 games with a well executed offense.  The team continues to execute with quick solid passes allowing for easy baskets underneath.  The scoring was led by Abigail Naugler with an impressive 12 points followed by another strong outing by Brianna Walker with 8 points.  Alexa Harrington, Julia Cafferty, and Alison Pellegrino each scored a basket rounding out the top scorers.  Julia Cafferty's basket was a break-away layup after stealing the ball on defense.  Alison Pellegrino saw her first 2 points of the year. On the defensive end, Surabhi Keesara, Julia Giaimo, and Sarah Molander continued to shut down the offensive flow by generating a couple of turnovers and grabbing a few rebounds.  Surabhi and Julia were placed in the forward position whereas Sarah played both guard positions.  Julia Cafferty was the defensive player of the game.

STARZZ 20 ROCKERS 4
The Starzz played a very tough defensive team in the Rockers this week.  Leading the charge was the Player of the Game, Marissa Ladderbush (10 pts, 6 steals & 10 rebounds).  A double double for our little fearless leader.  Rookie Leah Veloz continues to grow with (4pts, 9 steals & 6 rebounds), Kenzie Kennison (2 pts, 7 stls & 7 reb), Amber Buttaro (2pts & 3 reb), Daisha Thompson (1 reb & 2 steals)m, Isabella Beyloune (3 steals), Ava Nickerson (1 reb & 5 steals) and Gianna Bourassa (3 steals).  Congratulations to Marissa Ladderbush and Daisha Thompson for getting voted in to the All Star Game.  Players and parents both voted them in and they deserve their moment in the spotlight.

MYSTICS 24 STORM 6

The Mighty Mystics started the second half of the season the way they would have expected, with a win. They played a great and very well coached Storm team and were still to able to find ways of scoring against a very tough aggressive defense. The Mystics seem to have a confidence about themselves now because they have earned it. We cannot decide on a player of the game because they all did such a great job. Every player has improved every week since day 1 of training camp and are now positioned for a great run in the second half of the season. Bring it on!

INTERMEDIATE LEAGUE

EAGLES 26 WILDCATS 6
Eagles remain undefeated this week as we took on the Wildcats. Eagle team defense seemed to hold quite well, however, it was if no Wildcat shot would seem to want to fall. Chances were there for both teams, which saw Kayla Giaimo score her first regular season points. In fact, every week Kayla has improved her game and no more than this past week. Kayla earns offensive star and defensive star of the week. Kayla had two steals, 1 Jump Ball, and two fouls to her credit for her best game this season. Eagles look to see her continue this type of play during this last half of the regular season. Sarah Constantino was asked to play the guard position other than her normal forward spot. What makes this team work, is the ability to move our players in and out of their comfort zone, Sarah delivered scoring 2 pts on the offensive side. In fact, The Eagles team would see 9 out of 11 players contribute to the scoring. A great overall team game by all the Eagles girls.

WAVES 36 JAYHAWKS 15

The Jayhawks suffered a tough loss as they faced the Waves, but they never gave up and kept their heads in the game. The team's offense was lead today by Michaela Svendsen netting 12 points for the team and earned defensive player of the game.  She had a great game on both ends of the court, rebounding and blocking shots and then taking the ball to the hoop any chance she could!  Guards Victoria Horton, Emily Saunders, Britney Bourassa and Meghan Graszak had the tough job of breaking through a strong Waves defense.  They did a good job protecting the ball and pushed their way forward to break through.  Emily Burns, Tayla Spezzano(2) and Chelsea Pellegrino(1) were our power forwards and played strong game. They each had some beautiful steals and blocked shot attempts by the Waves.  Olivia Powers and Caitlin Panessiti made several good shot attempts on net, but they just wouldn't drop.  Both girls also grabbed key rebounds for the team.  We had some great support on the bench from our injured teammate, Haley Marchant, who kept the team's spirit going!!

TERRIERS 26 HUSKIES  13

Despite Playing shorthanded and without their Leader, Coach Bob the Huskies were able to stay competitive with a strong, talented and well coached Terrier team. To adjust, all the players were asked to play positions they were not familiar with.  Madison Bugley, Nicole Lucia and Lily Wyatt were able to keep the Terrier offense in check for most of the game.  Stefanie Cunningham and Kayla Marshall executed some fast breaks only to have their shots rim out.  Scoring was led by Victoria Mirabito (10pts), Sarah Sullivan (2pts) and Emily Amaral (1pt.). The huskies are looking forward to putting a full squad on the floor next week.

WOLVERINES 17 COUGARS 8

The Cougars had a tough loss on Saturday. They couldn't get much offense going at all against the tough defense played by the Wolverines. They did do some good things on defense but not nearly enough on the offensive end to give themselves a chance to win. We will practice very hard this week to improve and bounce right back with high energy next weekend.

SENIOR LEAGUE

SPURS 27 SONICS 26

The Sonics came roaring out taking a commanding 12 point lead on the Spurs but couldn't hold on to that pace. Toni Joy was on fire and scored 20 of the Sonics 26 points. Marissa Conlin had 4 points with a basket in the final seconds and a chance to tie the game with a foul shot. Alexis Chaet scored 2 points.  The Sonics D was led by Stephanie McHatton, Jessica Lehmann, and Jamie Burger, but of course since there were only six Sonics playing everyone pitched in.

MAGIC 29 JAZZ 13
The Magic and the Jazz faced off with short benches, and played a back and forth first half.  The Magic played some strong defense in the third quarter, and did some nice passing and shooting in the fourth to get an advantage and maintain the lead.  Everyone for the Magic contributed to the win led by Cassandra Froio (7 pts) and Michelle Creedon (6 pts) who were primary ball handlers for the Magic, and provided leadership on the court . Ashley Figucia (6 pts) and Sarah Ward (4 pts) provided some great outside shooting. Rachael Langone (4 pts) and Sarah Baptista (2 pts) played great defense and grabbed numerous rebounds. Great team play by the Magic.

PACERS 19  BLAZERS 16

The shorthanded Blazers fell for the 1st time on the season in a back-and-forth affair against the sharpshooting Pacers team. The lead changed hands several times in the 1st half with the Blazers holding on to a 1 point lead (8-7). Then early in the 4th quarter the Blazers began to take charge stretching the lead to 16-11. However the Pacers buckled down and realizing that they were not having any luck inside began taking outside jump shots that rained down on the basket and were able to take a 17-16 lead with about 1 minute to go. Free throws were the key for the Pacers down the stretch as the Blazers tried to get back into the game resulting in the final score. The Blazers battled all day on the defensive side and had many good looks at the basket but in the end could not hold onto the lead. Scoring for the Blazers were Ariana Calouro with 8 points, Caitlin Carroll with 6, and Shalimar Hulme with 2. Hulme was the defensive player of the game with 12 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 resounding block. Taylor Donahoe also had 7 rebounds and 2 blocks.
