Redmen Roundup: Tennis Team Bounces Back Against Lowell Catholic

Chetkowski helps baseball team pick up huge win against Dracut, 2-0.

Girls Tennis

girls tennis team, on track to post the record in team history, hit a bump in the road with back-to-back losses against Notre Dame Academy and Central Catholic. However, the Redmen showed some resiliency, with a big win over Lowell Catholic to on the season, 3-4 in the MVC.

But the team is 3-1 in MVC Division 2, putting the Redmen in a tie for first place. They have one match left against each of the other MVC D2 teams.

April McDermott lost 6-3, 6-3
Alyssa Mulno lost 6-1, 6-3
Kylie Sedgwick won 3-6, 7-6(6), 13- 11(Match tie break)

Central 3, Tewksbury 0 (two matches rained out)

April McDermott was 0-1 when the rain began.
Alyssa Mulno lost 4-6, 7-6, 6-1. 2 1/2 hour match.
Kylie Sedgwick lost 6-4, 2-6,6-4,, 2 1/2 hour match.
Lindsey and Jordyn were at 2-4 when the rain began.
Nicole McColgan and Monika Hyberts lost 6-3 3-6 6-2.

Softball

nursing a broken hand, things have been a bit more challenging of late fo the TMHS softball team. But the Redmen have been up to the task, as evidenced by their gutsy 7-6 comeback win over Chelmsford (9-2, 6-1 MVC).

Down 6-4 going into the bottom of the seventh, Tewksbury (8-2 overall, 5-2 MVC) rallied with five hits to pull out the victory.

Sam LaFerriere started the comeback when she plated (4 hits, 3 runs) with an RBI triple. Tiffanie Marsh stroked a single to tie the game and then moved into scoring position on a single by Stacy Liggiero. That set the stage for third baseman , who ripped a double to end the game.

Marsh and Doherty had three hits each for the Redmen. Erin Walsh chipped in with a pair of hits.

Marsh and Hardy split the pitching duties for Tewksbury. Marsh pitched the first four innings with Hardy getting the win in relief.

Baseball

, striking out 10 along the way to lead Tewksbury to a much-needed 2-0 win over Dracut. The win improved the Redmen to 4-6 on the season, 1-5 in MVC D2.

Zac DiRocco drove in both runs for Tewksbury, who managed just four hits on the day. The Redmen jumped in front with a run in the first and added an insurance run in the fifth off Dracut ace James Machado.

Don Rosado and Frankie McLaughlin also had hits for Tewksbury.

Boys' Lacrosse

The Tewksbury boys lacrosse team has become very dangerous but the Redmen have fallen just short of pulling off huge wins in their last two games.

On Tuesday, Tewksbury lost a 9-8 heartbreaker to Lowell at Cawley Stadium. The game was tied deep into the fourth quarter before Lowell scored the game-winner with less than four minutes to play.

with four goals and two assists. Brandon Hibner dished out four assists.

Zach Jacobs and Sean Foley each added a goal and an assist, while Joey Matranta and Joey DiRusso also notched single tallies.

With the loss, Tewksbury dropped to 6-6 on the season.
