Redmen Roundup: Baseball, Tennis Teams' Seasons Come To An End

Tennis team trimmed by Pentucket, while the baseball team is slammed by North Andover.

The best season in the history of the tennis program came to an end on Monday but not without the Redmen putting up a fight.

Pentucket Regional advanced in the Division 2 North tournament with a 3-2 win over Tewksbury, in a match that had to be moved indoors to the Woburn Racquet Club because of the poor weather.

Tewksbury swept both doubles contests. At No. 1 doubles, Lindsey McQuesten and Jordyn LeBlanc played very well and won 6-1, 2-6, 10-8 (match tie break). The duo finished an outstanding season at 13-5, and were named to the MVC All Conference Team.

At No. 2 doubles, Natasha Kuegler and Nicole McColgan put together their most complete match of the year and came away with a 6-3 6-4 win.

"Our 2 doubles team played their best match of the season," said Coach Mary MacDonald. "They were very consistent and both volleyed very well today."

Unfortunately for Tewksbury, Pentucket has a powerhouse trio playing singles and the Sachems swept those three matches. In fact, so strong were the Pentucket players that Tewksbury's April McDemott, Kylie Sedgwick and Meaghan Keene were swept in straight sets, managing to win just one game between them.

Tewksbury closes out it's best season ever at 11-6. Nine seniors completed their careers: April McDermott, Alyssa Mulno, Meaghan Keene, Lindsey McQuesten, Jordyn LeBlanc,Natasha Kuegler, Nicole McColgan, Monika Hyberts, and Esther Ou.

Redmen overwhelmed by North Andover

North Andover jumped out to as 5-0 lead after two innings and that was more than enough for their ace, Brandon Walsh, in a 9-2 win over Tewksbury.

The Redmen (8-14) finally got to Walsh (6-2) for a pair of runs in the fifth. Frankie McLaughlin and Dom Rosado stroked RBI singles. But by that point the lead had ballooned to 9-0 and the Knights were advancing in the tournament.

Tewksbury, which had opened the tournament with a 3-0 win over Wayland behind their own ace, John Chotkowski, also got hits from Brad Pontes, Tyler Puelo, Mark Daley and Allyn Hood.
