Tewksbury Four Ball Winners:

Hunter and Strahan1 Up

Overall this was a good match for all of our players with six individual winners out of eight and winning all four four ball matches as well. Junior Jeff Giasullo was the match medalist shooting an even par 36 on the day.

Senior Tyler Slavin wasn't far behind shooting a one over par 37 with fellow senior and number three player Pat Doherty shooting two over par 38. We were able to go out and sweep both the first two groups to get on top 10-0 in the match and then Mike Casey and Ryan Muise won their four ball match along with Ryan Musie winning his individual match to make the score 13-2 after the third group.

In the final group senior Eric Hunter won his match 1 Up on the ninth hole and he and junior Zach Strahan combined to win their four ball match 2 up as well giving the us a 3-2 group victory once again making the final score on the day 16-4 n favor of the Redmen.

We now stand at 12-3-1 overall on the season and with the league play over for the season the Redmen finish up at 9-3-1 on the year, 7-0-1 in the Small School Division. We will finish up the regular season next week with two non league matches; Monday at North Reading and then Wednesday at home against Billerica in a stroke play non league matchup.

On Thursday, Vesper Country Club will host the Merrimack Valley Conference Individual Championship where three of the Redmen will represent the team.

Tewksbury 10 1/2, Lowell  9 1/2

On a cold and in a constant rain all afternoon the Tewksbury Redmen and Lowell Red Raiders locked up in a Merrimack Valley Conference Division II matchup. The weather wouldn't be a factor for either team since both had to play in it. For some players it would be a battle to see who could get through it. With the course relatively clear it was decided by the coaches that the match would be played under a shotgun format which meant that all four groups playing in the match would start simultaneously on four different holes.
Group 1, with the number 1 and 2 players for each team Tyler Slavin and Jeff Giasullo from Tewksbury and George Vergados and Nick Cohan from Lowell would start on the first hole. Group 2 featuring the number 3 and four players, Pat Doherty and Derek Petti from Tewksbury and Jack McAnespie and Tyler Schermerhorn from Lowell would start on the ninth tee. Group 3 had players 5 and 6, Mike Casey and Ryan Muise from Tewksbury and Zach Cousineau and Alec Espinola from Lowell would be starting on the fifth hole leaving group 4 with Sean Thomann and Zach Strahan from Tewksbury and Tim McQuaid and Isabella Chin Chap from Lowell starting on the second hole.
Group 4 was the first group to finish their match on the first green, which was their final hole of the match since they started on the second hole. When this group was finished Lowell led the match 5-0 with individual victories behind Tim McQuaid and Isabella Chin Chap of Lowell as well as winning the four ball match as well. This was a tough day for both Sean and Zach who actually lost his first match of the season today. As we have said all along, Zach has been Mr. Automatic for us this season and today was an abnormality for both he and us as a team. He'll be ready to bounce right back tomorrow in our match against dracut though, we certainly have not lost any faith in him whatsoever.
Group 3 was the next group to finish their match with Lowell's number five Zach Cousineau defeating Tewksbury's Mike Casey 1. Michael did a good job fighting in his match being 1 down through eight holes and having a chance to earn a tie on the ninth hole but unfortunately it wasn't to be on this day and Cousineau had earned the two points for Lowell in this group. Tewksbury senior Ryan Muise on the other hand was able to continue his excellent play on the season by winning his match 2&1 earning two individual points for the Redmen in this group. The four ball match was won by Tewksbury's Casey and Muise making the group score 3-2 in favor of the Redmen and improving the match score to 7-3 in Lowell's favor.
Group 1, behind the red hot play of senior Tyler Slavin and junior partner Jeff Giasullo would get out to good sized leads through the first six holes with Slavin leading 3 up and Giasullo leading 2 up and the four ball match 3 up in the favor of Salvin and Giasullo. Following Tyler Slavin's third consecutive birdie on the seventh hole his match was over with Salvin winning his match 3&2. In addition, Slavin and Giasullo's four ball match was also over by the same score of 3&2. Giasullo, who was playing his cousin Nick Cohan for the second time this season was still 2 up through 7 holes. Things would get more interesting with Cohan winning hole #8 to get the match to 1 up in Giasullo's favor heading to the ninth tee. Jeff was able to make a fifteen foot putt on the ninth green to earn a tie on the hole but winning his match 1 up partnering with Slavin to earn all five point in the group for the Redmen. With these five points the Redmen would take their first lead of the day in the match by the score of 8-7 with just one group remaining on the course.
Group 2 was the final group on the soggy, rainy, wet course trying to finish their match. Tewksbury senior Pat Doherty won his match on their seventh hole of the match 4&2 earning two more match points for the Redmen, assuring us of at least a tie in the match. Petti on the other hand found himself 1 down at this point but the four ball match  was 1 up in favor of the Redmen. Unfortunately for Petti and the Redmen, he would be defeated 2&1 on the groups eighth hole but fortunately the four ball match was still 1 up in favor of the Redmen at this point, assuring us of at no worse than another half a point and a victory on the day. Lowell would win the four ball on the night hole but the overall score in the four ball match was All Square which meant that both teams would earn a half a point and the score in the group would be 2 1/2 to 2 1/2. With this final group completed the final score of the match was Tewksbury 10 1/2, Lowell 9 1/2 earning the Redmen their eleventh victory of the season and moving their record to 11-3-1 overall!
Other than it being a lousy, sloppy weather day, all of our players were able to be prepared and came out and worked hard in spite of the conditions and played well enough to get a victory on the day. Tyler Slavin didn't seem to be fazed by the weather what so ever today shooting his best round of the season, two under par 34. His opponent George Vergados is an excellent player and Tyler was extremely focused and wanted to go out and play well against him and help support his teammates.
