Boys knock off Andover, girls pick up important tie with Wayland/Weston

Boys Hockey

Tewksbury 3, Andover 1

Excellent defense, stout goaltending and just enough offense carried the Redmen past Andover, 3-1.

Captain Derek Petti once again led the offense with a pair of goals and an assist. Mike Casey added the third goal. Ryan Petti had two assists and Pat Doherty had one.

With the victory, tournament-bound Tewksbury upped its record to 10-2-1.

Sophomore goalie Kyle Paquette turned in another excellent game between the pipes, turning aside 23 shots in the win.

Girls Hockey

Tewksbury/Methuen 2, Wayland/Weston 2

Nothing is coming easy for the Tewksbury/Methuen girls hockey team, but they seem to be thriving on the pressure.

On Saturday, the Red Rangers battled Wayland/Weston to a 2-2 tie that was every bit the war the score indicates.

Sophomore Amanda Conway scored one goal and assisted on the other by Catherine McVey. Conway's goal, her 31st of the year, came in the second period and tied the game at 2-2.

The rest was left to the defense and the goaltending of Taylor Lirakis, who turned back 36 shots during the game. A key stretch came during the third period, when the Red Rangers wee able to kill of a 5-on-3 power play for Wayland/Weston.

With the tie, the Red Rangers are now 5-6-3 on the season.
