Tewksbury 2, Chelmsford 2
There has not been too much to cheer about this season for the Tewksbury High boys soccer team but Thursday's 2-2 ties against Chelmsford High was one for sure.
The Redmen (0-8-3) trailed 2-1 late in the game and were putting on furious pressure, when Ron Mallach took a crossing pass from Theo Hondros and drilled home the game-tying goal with just five seconds on the clock.
Dario Riparo had the other goal for the Redmen, with the assist going toNick Bain. Kyle Paquette continued his strong play for Tewksbury. Zach Jacobs also played very well on defense.

Tewksbury Four Ball Winners -- Eric Hunter & Zach Strahan 2&1, Mike Casey & Ryan Muise 2&1
On a rainy, drizzly day on the road with a revenge minded North Andover Scarlet Knight hosting the Tewksbury Redmen went over to North Andover and continued their strong season. This was a very exciting match that went right down to the wire as it did just one week prior over at Trull Brook Golf Course with the Redmen coming out on top.
North Andover would jump out strong in this match by taking the first group 5-0 behind the strong play of North Andover's Alec Brown and Justin Myerson. Group four was the next group to finish their play and Tewksbury was able to offset North Andover's sweep in Group one by matching it with Zach Strahan winning his match after the first five homes, five and four. The Four Ball match also went Tewksbury's way with a two and one win as well. Eric Hunter, found himself two down with three holes to pay in his match which would swing the match in North Andover's favor but once again Eric battled right to the very end winning the last two holes to earn two huge points and solidify the five point sweep for the Redmen, knotting up the match score at 5-5. At this point the excitement was just starting to build.
With two groups still on the course the match was locked in a 5-5 tie and the two groups on the course looked like they could possibly end in 5-0 sweeps for each side as well which would make the match a tie. Group number two was the next group to finish and after some wayward putting by both teams Pat Doherty was able to flat his match earning one point for the Redmen as North Andover went on to win the group 4-1, moving the match score to 9-6 in North Andover's favor with one group remaining on the course.
Group number three was on their final hole as the excitement in group two was taking place. When the final group finished the team of Mike Casey and Ryan Muise had earned a 4-1 victory in their matches and end the match in a 10-10 tie. This was a good tie for the most part, but one that we felt like we let get away when it happened. After some further thought, considering that we went on the road to a course that none of our players had every seen or played on, and neither coach had played or seen either, we take a positive feeling away from this match. Knowing that we were able to go on the road and get a tie against the team with the best record in the league, 7-1-2 prior to the match, it was a tie that will help us in the long run and an experience that our players were abel to learn from.
Tewksbury 11, Andover 9 (At Indian Ridge Country Club)
Tewksbury Individual Winners -- Tyler Slavin 2&1, Pat Doherty 2 Up, Ryan Muise 2&1, Eric Hunter 1 Up, Zach Strahan 2&1
Tewksbury Four Ball Winners -- Eric Hunter & Zach Strahan 3&2
In yet another "heart attack match" for everyone involved the Redmen found themselves in a dogfight right up to the last group of the day, and yet agin Eric Hunter found himself in the middle of the goings on and would be a determining factor in this match. On yet another rainy day for golf, and finding ourselves on the road once again, Tewksbury went out and pulled off yet another upset on the season!
Group one went out with Tewksbury number one player Tyler Slavin coming in with a two and one win on the eighth hole. It was a great win for Tyler today. He has been working so hard both in practice and at the range after practice but just hasn't been able to break through lately until today where he was the match medalist with a 37 and a win to go along with it. Andover's number two, Brett Krekorian was able to defeat Tewksbury's Jeff Giasullo five and three. In the four ball match, Andover's Stahle and Krekorian won 3&2 and Andover was leading the match 3-2.
Group three finished next with the same score, 3-2 in favor of Andover. Andover's number five, Jack Rieley defeated Tewksbury's Mike Casey five and four while Tewksbury's number six player Ryan Muise continued his hot play by winning his match against Dan Caveney 2&1. For the second straight group Andover's Rieley and Caveney won the four ball match three and two and the overall group by another 3-2 score. With two groups finished Andover led the match 6-4.
Group two finished the match next with the same results as the first two groups that finished ahead of them. Tewksbury's number three Patrick Doherty won his match two and one over Ryan Burke while Andover's number four Nick Scarpa beat Tewksbury's Derek Petti four and three once again evening up the individual matches where Andover's Burke and Scarpa won the four ball match three and two. After three complete groups Andover now led the match 9-6 with five possible points left on the course. and all the excitement about to take place.
As has been the case most of the season in this group, Zach Strahan won his match early and worked alongside Eric Hunter to win the four ball match three and two. Zach has been tremendously consistent for us this season and has done a really great job all year long. he is that guy that we know we can count on and rely on at the back side of the order. Today Zach went out and won his match two and one and he and Hunter won the only four ball match that the Redmen would win all day three and two. Knowing that the match was tied when this group got to the ninth tee, senior Eric Hunter found himself 1 up after winning his seventh hole with a forty foot birdie putt and then flatting his eighth hole. Knowing this, the Redmen were assured of no worse than their second consecutive tie. Eric was able to flat his ninth hole with a great downhill six foot putt to earn an individual win in his match one up and helping the Redmen earn a 5-0 score in the last group and contribute to the Redmen winning the match 11-9.
With this win Tewksbury moves to 9-3-1 on the season with one more match remaining this week. Tomorrow the Redmen travel to Hickory Hill Golf Course to take on the Dracut Middies in another Merrimack Valley Conference Division II match up.
