Softball Team Advances to North Semifinal, Boys Lacrosse Eliminated

Tewksbury earned an extra innings win on Sunday to advance to the softball semifinal.

It was a busy weekend for Tewksbury Memorial High School sports fans.

Three Redmen games took place between Friday and Sunday, and one local team took two steps closer towards its championship goal.

Softball Advances to Sectional Semi

Tewksbury softball earned two weekend wins, setting up a date with Danvers in the North Division 2 semifinal game.

The Lady Redmen beat Newburyport with ease on Friday afternoon, snagging a 6-0 victory.

But the locals weren't done there. Tewksbury needed extra innings on Sunday, but the team was able to keep its championship hopes alive with a 1-0 eight inning win on the road versus third-seeded Arlington.

Following the victory, Tewksbury is now into the North Division 2 semifinal round, where they will take on No. 2 Danvers. That game is scheduled for Wednesday at Martin Field in Lowell. The winner of that contest plays Dracut, Arlington Catholic or Swampscott in the tournament final.

Wakefield Too Much for Boys Lacrosse

Tewksbury had a tough opening round draw in the North Division 2 boys lacrosse bracket, and it showed as they were beaten by the tournament's No. 2 seed.

Wakefield dominated play in the quarterfinal round, and went on to a 16-4 victory to set up a meeting with Beverly in the semifinals.

With the loss for the No. 7 Redmen, Tewksbury's season comes to a close with a record of 13-8.
