TMHS Hockey Team Draws Winthrop In State Tournament

Redmen will open defense of their 2011 Division 2 State Championship Tuesday evening in Stoneham.

It's tourney time again for the who learned on Saturday that they will face Winthrop High School in the opening round of the MIAA Division 2 North Sectional tournament on Tuesday evening at Stoneham Arena.

Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. as the No. 7 seeded Redmen will open their defense of their 2011 Division 2 State Championship against the No. 10 seeded Vikings.

Winthrop finished its regular season with a 12-6-2 record, good for third place in the Northeastern Conference's North Division, behind Danvers and Beverly, who are seeded fourth and sixth in the Division 2 North bracket.

which qualified for a state tournament berth with more than two weeks left in the regular season, put together some if its best hockey of the year as the season winded down, averaging four goals per game over it last five regular season contests. TMHS finished second in the Merrimack Valley Conference/Dual County League's Division 2 standings with a 12-4-4 overall record and a 6-0-4 league record.

led the Redmen in scoring with 28 goals and six assists while freshman netminder Kyle Paquette and the stingy TMHS defense allowed just 1.58 goals per game.

Winthrop is led by senior forward Chris LeBlanc, who scored 18 goals and added 19 assists this season, and sophomore forward Dan Eruzione, who had 12 goals and 19 assists.

If the Redmen get past Winthrop, they will face the winner of a Monday game between MVC/DCL rival Boston Latin (the No. 2 seed) and 15th-seeded Watertown in the tournament's second round.
