Tuesday Storms Knock Out Power to Several Thousand Residents

The outages are impacting customers in Tewksbury and Lowell.

Updated Tuesday at 9:57 p.m.: As of just before 10 p.m., the number of National Grid customers without power in Tewksbury was down to under 1,000 as compared to nearly 4,000 residents at 5 p.m.

There were two separate large outage areas in addition to several smaller outages.

An area spanning Chapman Road towards I-495 had 520 impacted customers while another area near the North Billerica border impacted 495 National Grid customers as of 10 p.m.

Updated Tuesday at 6:59 p.m.: 
Several residents have reported downed trees, possibly struck by lightning during Tuesday's storms.

John Atwater of WCVB tweeted several photos that showed damaged trees, including one that fell onto a home on Whipple Road.

Original Story: Several thousand residents are without power early Tuesday evening after severe impact rolled through the region.

According to the National Grid outage map, an area that spans a region of Tewksbury and Lowell near I-495 is without power as of about 5 p.m.

National Grid reports that 3,682 customers have no power. There are also smaller regions without power around Tewksbury, though those outages are each impacting less than five customers apiece.

Thunderstorms rolled through Tewksbury and other Middlesex County towns on Tuesday afternoon, bringing thunder, lightning and heavy wind and rains. Additional storms could take place Thursday evening and Wednesday, with possible flash flooding.
