Championship Saturday

All In-town divisions came to an exciting close this past weekend with championship games in the Junior (4-5th grade), Intermediate (6-7th grade), Senior (8-9th grade), and High School (10-12th grade) Divisions.

Junior Division

Warriors 27 - Wizards 21

In a game that matched up the two teams with the best records, both teams gave their best efforts and battled to the end with the Warriors prevailing to capture the Junior Championship.  The Wizards opened up on fire and raced out to a 12-3 lead.  The Warriors refused to quit and mounted a comeback behind the smothering defense of Julian Costello and Bryan Doherty under the basket and Dylan Crowley on the ball.  Will McFadyen scored on an early jumper and Travis Cohen dominated the paint in the first half collecting 6 points and 13 rebounds.  Sreetej Digmurthi scored late in the half to close the gap to 14-11 at the break.  The Warriors relentlessly attacked the basket drawing fouls and getting to the line.  Luke McFadyen (6 points) and Sreetej Digmurthi each had 4 third quarter points as the Warriors were able to take a 22-18 lead into the final period.  Ryan Melo (4 points) scored on a court length drive and Will McFadyen hit from way out on the baseline to allow the Warriors to pull away in the fourth quarter.  Sean Kaiser was in control of the ball all game picking up 2 assists and limiting turnovers against an aggressive Wizards defense.  Outstanding effort and unselfish play by the whole team all season long was the key to the Warriors securing both the regular season and playoff titles.

The Wizards came out strong in the championship game grabbing the early lead but in the second half the Wizards just couldn’t get going on offense against a tough Warrior defense.  The Wizards defense was able to slow down the Warriors top scorers with contributions by Nathan Norwood, Colin Goggins. Will Forbes, Jason Donaher and Felix Navarette, but the Warriors balanced offense made the difference. The Wizards offense was led by David Miller with 8 points followed by Ethan Exilhomme 4 points, Connor McFadyn 4 points, Logan Teixiera 3 points and Colin Fullerton 2 points. The Wizards had an outstanding season with 11 wins and all the players were committed to teamwork, effort and improvement throughout the year.

The Hornets and Jazz were bound to meet in the finals both finishing the season at 11 - 1.  A tough game right from the tip off with the two first place teams squaring off saw the Jazz come out on top 31 - 21. It was a close game the whole way with Nate Wilkinson knocking down 4 of his 8 points in the 1rst quarter to tie things up. Josh Donaher had 10 points and many big rebounds to help control the pace. Rounding out the scoring for the Jazz was Derek Wallace with 7pts and great ball handling & Shawn Manson with 6pts hitting some big free throws and lay ups. It was another strong performance from our point guard Ryan Meuse who kept control of his offensive unit. Both Matt Pelletier and Matt Ferreira played outstanding defense against a great shooting Hornets team. Mike Bankowski who hustled up and down the floor had some big plays to keep the Jazz going. It was another big day down low for Nick Stephens ripping down 15 Rebounds and playing strong defense. Jack Kenneally had one of his strongest games all season, going after every lose ball and diving all over the floor to help seal the victory.

Senior Division

Magic defeated the Hornets

In a closely fought game, the Magic outlasted the Hornets to earn the Senior division championship.

High School Division

Red 36 - Black 33

In a game that came down to the last second, the Red team held off the Black team.  The Black team was down by more than 10 at half but fought back to close it to 3 points before the last 3-point attempt failed to tie the game up.
