Warriors 28 – Spurs 14

The Warriors opened their playoff run with a strong performance throughout the game to defeat the Spurs and move into the semi-finals.  Sreetej Digmurthi opened the scoring with a free throw after a court length drive.  It was just the first of his 4 points on the day.  The Warriors used the McFadyen brother combination to jump into the lead late in the first quarter.  First Luke fed Will on a long fast break pass and on the next trip down the court Will drove and dished to Luke for a layup.  Luke McFadyen finished the game with 10 points and 9 rebounds while Will McFadyen chipped in 4 points and 2 assists.  The first half closed with a basket from Bryan Doherty who also had a big game on the glass collecting 10 rebounds.  In the second half Dylan Crowley was everywhere stealing the ball, grabbing rebounds and making pretty passes to extend the lead.  Ryan Melo contributed 8 second half points.  Travis Cohen and Julian Costello limited the Spurs to one shot per trip with key rebounds.

The Spurs loss to the Warriors in Round 1 of the playoffs would close out their season. It was a well-played game by all players. Matthew Woods would be first to score in the game getting 2 of his 4 points but from there on in it would be a game of catch up that would not be reached. Points were scored by Joshua Linnehan (2) and Dylan Dufresne (3).  There were some excellent efforts offensively with hard play by Brady Litton, Samuel Hines, Kyle Breen and Ryan Rosenberg. Defensive standouts for the Spurs were Charles Matsas,  Daedon Bere, and Trevor Trodden.

Celtics 31 – Cavs 28

The Cavs played a great game but came up a little short with a 31-28 loss to the Celtics.  Shayne Macdonald led the Cavs in scoring with 15 pts.  Joey Arsenault (4 pts), Jason Barnes (2), Justin Charlton (2), Logan Frost (2), John Cucinotta (2), and Dhruv Kaushal  (1)  rounded out the scoring.  The Cavs got great rebounding and defense from Michael Bottaro who was a monster on the boards.  Tyler Leeds and Joshua Astuti did a great job handling the ball and overall team defense helped keep the Cavs close throughout.

Wizards 25 – Mavs 14

In this first round playoff game The Wizards jumped out to a quick 10 point lead and then kept up the defensive pressure throughout the game. The Mavs played with energy but the Wizards defensive pressure limited their scoring chances. The Wizards had 7 players scoring led by David Miller with 10 points joined by Ethan Exilhomme, Colin Goggins, Colin Fullerton, Jason Donaher, Logan Teixiera and Connor McFadyen.  Nathan Norwood, Jonny Norwood and Felix Navarette played a strong game with great defense and a number of shots to help propel the Wizards to a solid team victory.

Scoring for the Mavs was led by Mark Olu, Henry Pestana, and Derek Wilkinson.  Although they had a hard time getting it going, the Mavs got contributions from the entire roster today. Nick Johnston , Alex Johnston , Devon Stoddard , Jordan Mackenzie , Josh Engelken , Paul Tower, and Cullain Johnson all played their hearts out in a losing effort.

Lakers 34 – Sixers 18

The game was fast-paced right from the opening tip.  The Lakers put out a total team effort - passing, rebounding, and working together on defense.  Scoring for the Lakers was Sean Fahey (10 pts), Mike Wilson (6 pts.), Robert Cortes, and Nick Wilson (4 pts. each).  Abhi Lingareddy contributed 4 points also in his best game of the year.  Lee Ghannam, Nick Polimeno, and James  Ministeri each contributed big hoops as well.  The entire Laker roster played great basketball against a talented Sixers team.  Mihir Bagul played a tremendous game on both sides as he constantly stole the ball for multiple shot opportunities that just would not fall.  The Lakers 34-18 victory advances them to the Semi-Finals next week.

In their final game of the season, the Sixers offense had points from five different players- Eric Ndungo led his team as he did all year with 6 points and 1 steal.  Nik Smith had 4 points and was strong on the boards while Cole Kimtis and Logan Reinhard each contributed 3 points.  Damien Hadden rounded out the scoring with 2 points.  Robert Ryan stopped the Lakers offensive rush with 2 steals and Aidan Crawson had his strongest defensive game of the year with 5 rebounds and 1 steal.  Nicholas Danielson played tough defensively and offensively set up several of his team’s scoring chances.

In the first round of the Sr. Division Playoffs, the Hornets and Rockets played an exciting, competitive game. Close for most of the game, the Hornets pulled away in the fourth to advance to the next round. Guard Matty McLaughlin also found some extra energy as he played three times in a row to provide some end of the game defense. McLaughlin put up 12 points in total, including a three point shot. Daniel DeRosa’s exceptional defense helped to set up more chances for his teammates, including a 3 pointer by Brendan Murray. Murray totaled 10 points in all. The first 4 point play of the season was logged by Nolan Higgins, (6 points), as he got fouled on a long range three. Making the highlight reels was a buzzer beating 3 pointer by Sam Fortier (5 points) to end the first half, giving the Hornets the lead. Defense and rebounds were keys to this win. Tewksbury 6th Grade White Redmen came into the last weekend of Merrimack Valley League (MVL) play needing a win to lock-up a playoff third seed. After a heartbreaking loss to Haverhill 34-29 on Saturday, the last game of the regular season Sunday versus the Wilmington Wildcats was a must win. The Redmen jumped out to an early lead, 13-7 as Joey Branchaud (9 pts) and Thomas Barinelli (2 pts) made fast break lay-ups. Tewksbury’s Sean Phaneuf (5 pts) and Max Cummings (7 pts) continued attacking the basket as the Redmen closed out the first half leading 29-21. To start the second half, Aiden Doherty (6 pts) and Evan Mantel (2 pts) scored quickly for the Redmen as Tewksbury extended the lead to 42-24. The Wildcats would not give up as their big men scored inside with Wilmington cutting the lead to 44-33 with 4:23 on the clock. Anthony Disanto, Jason Martineau and Rob Evangelista then applied defensive pressure for Tewksbury as Colby Ward (13 pts) made a three pointer from downtown and Santino Garafalo (10 pts) took over inside with Tewksbury holding on for a 54-43 victory. The Redmen return to Wilmington next Saturday for the start of the Merrimack Valley League playoffs.

Tewksbury 6 Red wrapped up its regular season by splitting its final 2 games. 6 Red travelled to Lowell on Friday night to face Lowell Gray in its final division game. 6 Red looked sharp from the opening tap and cruised to a 60-42 victory. The victory left 6 Red with a 14-4 division record, good enough to be the #2 seed entering the playoffs next week. Shane Aylward, Colby Brown and Tyler Keough sparked the offense with 14, 12 and 10 points respectively. The remaining points were scored by Chris Antonelli (7 pts), Greg Sencabaugh (6 pts), Nolan Timmons (4 pts), Paul Manzi (4 pts), Garrett Kingston (2 pts) and Richie Markwarth (1 pt).

For its final game, 6 Red once again took the challenge to play a team for the A league as they travelled to Billerica to face their best. 6 Red played very well in this game in every facet of the game with one glaring exception - free throw shooting. 6 Red ultimately lost by 10 points, 47-37, but the game could have easily turned out differently if it were no for their woeful 4 for 21 shooting from the stripe. That was the difference in this game but the silver lining was that 6 Red showed they could play with Billerica Green. The offense in this one was led by Manzi (10 pts) and Aylward (9 pts), followed by Kingston (6 pts), Keough (5 pts), Timmons (4 pts), Sencabaugh (2 pts) and Nicky Iannacci (1 pt). Thomas Bradley returned to action after a brief illness and contributed on the defensive end.
