TBBL Week 3 Highlights

Cadet Division (Grades 2-3)

Hawks  9  -  Pacers  8

     The Pacers came out firing right from the opening tip but the Hawks continued to battle throughout the game and kept it close until they took the lead late and held on for a hard fought one point victory! The Hawks were led by Aidan MacDonald who had 4 points and the winning basket with just 14 seconds to play in the game! Kyle Cummings had a basket and some great rebounds and Jack Baron was a force on defense and made some great passes and shots. Nicholas Ingersoll was a force on defense keeping his opponent off guard and making them work hard. Albie Bosworth was strong on both the offensive and defensive glass gathering several rebounds. Michael Carlson contributed 1 point from the foul line and handled the ball with great skill. William Eskenas had numerous steals as well as adding a basket in the win. Johnny Baker had 3 nice shots at the basket as well as an assist. Michael Hill played great with his ball handling and suffocating defense. Great team play was the critical factor in contributing to the Hawks victory.

It was a game in which both teams played incredible throughout. The Pacers got out to a fast 8 to 2 lead in the first part of the game. Leading the charge were Billy Burris (2) points and Drew Rennell (6 points). Jack Rennell & Timmy Lepore both had a pair of assist. Cam Kearney and Ian Starr both had some remarkable passes and created some open lanes. The game went right down to the wire in the 2nd half when with 14 seconds left and the Hawks dropped a bucket to take the lead. Key defensive players for the Pacers were Ryan Thompson, Drew Nestor and Jacob Martel, who kept the intensity on the Hawks forwards all game long.

Bucks  defeats  Celtics

     The undermanned but determined Bucks took on the young and aggressive Celtics. The Bucks had only seven players available for the game but they were not going to allow a short bench to bring down their energy or tough defensive style. The Bucks were led in scoring by Dylan Paulding (7 points), Brenden Owens (6), Scott Miller (4), Noah Lehouillier (4), Ryan Murphy (4) and Brian Carleton (2). Along with solid offensive play, the Bucks also hit 5 free throws in the game with Murphy and Carleton each hitting 2 and Paulding making one as well. Aiden Cram stood out on the defensive side of the ball with solid rebounding throughout the entire game; Carleton and Owens made multiple steals from the guard positions leading to fast break opportunities and Miller, Lehouillier and Murphy played outstanding defense in the low post on both ends of the floor.

The C’s were led in scoring by Collin Strong’s six points, while Alexander Arbogast chipped in two points and six rebounds and Romyn Lorick added one point and seven rebounds.  Matthew Flynn contributed a strong game on the boards with six rebounds. Daniel Franklin and Cade Barron each had a few good opportunities to score that went just astray. Carter Forbes and Dominic Johnson continue to play hard and improve to help the team.    

 

Thunder  20  -  Sixers  11 

     The Thunder pulled out the victory over the Sixers. Playing their 2nd game without defensive stopper Matthew Duggan and also missing 1st year player Jason Forbes the team defense was solid led by Nicholas Alvarado who blanketed Sixer players all over the court. Joshua Maher and Paul Allen also made quality contributions on defensive end not allowing the Sixers to penetrate the lane.  Andre Monteiro led the team in rebounding again and Cameron Heichman grabbed several key defensive rebounds to hold the Sixers at bay. The ball movement on offense was the best of the season with crisp passing on almost every possession.  Brady McHugh started strong and led the team in scoring with 12, Connor Griffin had 6, and Bobby Branchaud had 2 points to round out the scoring. Branchaud was solid in all facets of the game, playing his best game of the young season.  McHugh and Derek Wogan each had several assists and Griffin led the team in steals igniting the Thunder fast break.

The Thunder came out strong on the boards early, Ryan Fleming scored a season high 9 points. Pouriya Mehrabani helped out scoring a basket in the 4th quarter. Kyle Adams played strong on the block as did Sam White. David Timmons, Nathan Jolly and Owen Kinnon were fierce on defense.  John O’Donnell and Joey Fiorino played strong in the middle.

 

Rockets  defeat  Suns

     The Rockets played a very strong game today against the Suns while receiving contributions from all the players today at both ends of the floor. The Rockets offense was very balanced with five different players hitting the scoreboard. They were led by Shayne Exilhomme and Adam Ellegood who both had 10 points each with Timmy Panilaitis scoring 2 points as well. Both Liam Kelley and Jayden Trudeau scored their first baskets of the season and contributed 2 points each for the team as well. Shayne Exilhomme did an excellent job of being very under control while dribbling as well as Jayden Trudeau who had an excellent game both ball handling and dribbling. Adam Ellegood did a nice job ball handling on offense and playing defense as well! On the defensive end Seamus Naughton, Colin Buchanan and Jimmy Holmes played very well. Crashing the boards today and doing a great job of rebounding both on the offensive and defensive end were Brandon Waddell and Liam Kelley. Timmy Panilaitis played a great game both on defense, ball handling and passing. Both Tim and Seamus played very strong all around games today.

The Raptors got off to a slow start but finished very strong, with excellent scoring by Justin Magee and Luke Montejo who both scored 4 points each while Michael Gaglione chipped in with 2 points as well. Aggressive defensive plays were made by by Zach Hayes and Anthony Naghibi where they forced several turnovers while Jason Svendsen, Daniel Richardson and Connor Broderick came up with several big rebounds. Peter Impick and Lucas Adams made some very good passes to set up some scoring chances as well. This young team is working extremely hard on the basketball court both in practice and games and learning from each other. Coach Fabio and Coach Tim like what we see and look forward to the continued improvement and the rest of the season.

Knicks  defeat Pistons 

     The Knicks had their best offensive game of the year on Saturday in a win over the Pistons. After falling behind 2-0 early on, Blake Ryder exploded with 7 quick points for the Knicks and ended the game with an impressive 15 points. Quinn Brown also contributed to the offensive output with 4 points including making a tough running jump shot while being fouled. Jayden Donaher (2 points) and Seamus MacDonald (2 points) rounded out the scoring by scoring their first points of the year. The offense was supported once again by great team defense. Joey Bourgea, Tyler Trodden and Santino D’ippolito provided great ball pressure that resulted in numerous steals. Scott Lightburn clogged up the middle and provided strong defensive rebounding and Ryan Flynn contributed several steals and tough rebounds in traffic. Overall, the Knicks played their best game of the year.  

The game was close from the start with the Pistons scoring early.  Unfortunately, Shea Moynihan had to leave the court with an injury early in the game joining fellow injured teammate, Simon Dunham, on the bench leaving the Pistons with only 6 players. Despite the shortage of players the Pistons played hard scoring 10 points in the game led by Tim Bradley (8 pts) and Mathew Ramsey (2 pts). Defensively the Pistons stayed strong with Aaron Ramsey, Jared Kruger and Morgan Dunham closing down the lanes while Mathew Tramonte led the team in rebounds.

Timberwolves  20  -  Suns  17

     The T-Wolves won their second straight in a close one against the talented Suns. After falling behind 13-8, the T-Wolves used their defensive tenacity to surpass the hot shooting Suns. On a day when the shots were not falling early, the team continued to look for good shot attempts. The T-Wolves were led in scoring by Ian Maresca (14pts), David Forgione (2pts), Edward Galante (2pts), and Colby Flahive (2pts), to surge ahead in the final minutes. The scorers were set up by excellent passing by Evan Galanis and Chandler Dubay, who made several nice passes. Well timed steals along with solid ball handling by Jason Morris and David Forgione were keys to the victory. The team worked hard for tough rebounds throughout the game, none more than Noah Healey and Kodie Legrand battling underneath the hoop. Once again the team played great team defense down the stretch to seal the contest and escape with the win!

     The Suns and Timberwolves found themselves in an incredible “see-saw” basketball game today, congratulations to the Timberwolves for the victory; they never let up! For the Suns today Alex Dellorusso received the Suns Game Ball for his best basket of the season. Anthony Burgess led the Suns scoring attack this week with 8 points. Noah Rizzo showed incredible heart with 6 points coming off of an ankle injury last week. Nicholas Gonzalez delivered a nice free throw while Jake Ryan is continues to improve and get better every week with some fast hands and sharp passes. Jonah Bennett was simply an animal in the paint. Robbie Beggan had two breakaways and added some smothering defense. Andrew Estabrook and Ryan Mackeen were all about forcing turnovers when it counted!

 

Junior Division (Grades 4-5)

CELTICS OVER SIXERS

The Junior Celtics played a good all-around game with the offence exploding for 38 points led by Derek Munroe with 12 points. Almost all the Celtics team was on the board with Aiden Grogan , Liam Macdonald and Cameron Loder each scoring 6 points. Cameron Lamoureux, Logan Auth, Jake Pellitier, and Justin Lucarotti each scoring 2 points. Brady Johnson and Seamus Cunninghan were both pivotal players on Defense and offence that contributed to the win.

LAKERS 22   WIZARDS 14

The Lakers/Wizards matchup was fierce from the start as both teams came to play.  Lots of hustle and determination to keep each other from scoring.  Great man-to-man defense by Lakers Sean Fahey, Mike Wilson, Robert Cortes, Lee Ghannam & Nick Polimeno kept the Wizards fierce attack from scoring.  Sean Fahey got the Lakers on the board first making it 2-0 at the end of the 1st Quarter.

The fast pace continued with Mike Wilson on a drive up the lane hitting a nice jumper for 2 points.  Sean Fahey continued the attack with 4 more, 12 total, making the halftime score 8-8. 

In the 2nd half, Robert Cortes (4 pts) and Nick Polimeno (2 pts) tied the score after the Wizards took the lead. Lee Ghannam had some real great rebounding for the Lakers.  Abhi Lingareddy, Nick Wilson and Mihir Bagul all played great man-to-man and zone defense to keep the Wizards from scoring.

The Fourth Quarter was just as crazy, with both teams running the floor, Fahey added 6 more points to the board.  James Ministeri hit a long jump shot outside of the 3 point area and played great hoop all game as the Lakers held on for the victory.

The Wizards defense was strong throughout the game led by David Miller with a number of steals, Nathan Norwood and Will Forbes with rebounds and Jonny Norwood pressuring the ball. The Wizards had a balanced scoring attack of 6 players with points from Ethan Exilhomme, Colin Goggins, Colin Fullerton, Logan Teixiera, Felix Navarette and Jason Donaher.

MAVS 23       SPURS 13

The Mavs played a strong game Saturday against a tough Spurs team. The first half was very close with both teams trading baskets. Leading the scoring for the Mavs, Derek Wilkinson with 8pts, Henry Pestana, and Nick Johnston both had 6pts. Rounding out the offense were Devon Stoddard hitting a big bucket late and Mark Olu knocking down a big free throw. It was another outstanding performance on defense with Jordan Mackenzie up top and Paul Tower, Cullain Johnson, Josh Engelken, and Alex Johnston all playing great defense and with great hustle to help hold on for the victory.

The Spurs would come out strong early in the 1st quarter with two baskets by Trevor Trodden for 4 of his 6 Points. There were outstanding plays made on defense by Brady Litton who would make a nice steal of an inbound pass. We also saw Matthew Woods diving to recover a loose ball and send the team back on offense. Kyle Breen had an excellent game where he excelled at point guard getting the offense up court and taking shots of his own that just would not drop in. The third quarter would see more hard defensive plays by Daedon Bere tying up the ball with an opposing player and pulling in some rebounds. We also saw hard offensive play from Ryan Rosenberg throughout the entire game taking multiple shots and passing the ball effectively.  The Spurs would start the  4th quarter down 17 -4   and there were loose ball recovery’s by Charles Matsas  and Joshua Linnehan who both contributed with hard play on offense and defense. There would by a push at the end to close the gap by Dylan Dufresne who had 5 points in the 4th. Points were also scored by Breen and Trodden but it would not be enough and the Spurs drop another to a tough Mavs team.

WARRIORS 20  CAVS 10

The Warriors faced off against the Cavs in a physical battle between two good defensive teams.  The Warriors were able to prevail thanks to great passing, tough rebounding and clutch free throw shooting.  The team used a balanced offense led by Will McFadyen (6 pts), Sean Kaiser (4 pts), Luke McFadyen (4 pts), Dylan Crowley (3 pts), Sreetej Digmurthi (2 pts) and Bryan “Big Country” Doherty (1 pt).  Marcus Canas was the defensive star of the game coming up with 7 rebounds and 5 steals to create transition opportunities for the Warriors.  Julian Costello and Travis Cohen had many opportunities under the basket thanks to great effort and positioning. 

Intermediate Division (Grades 6-7)

Thunder 27 – Celtics 25

The Celtics faced off against a very tough Thunder team on Sunday. It was a well-played game by both teams, with the Thunder pulling out a 27-25 victory. Both teams played well on offense and defense, but the Thunder proved too much for the Celtics when the final buzzer sounded.  As he has all season, Evan Wood came through with another great performance scoring 12 points accompanied with 6 steals. Also pitching in was Kyle Burris with 5 points, Kyle Marrocco with 6 points, and Tyler Paulding with 2 points. All the players were important in keeping the game close with timely rebounding and strong defense.

Hornets 38 – Suns 28

It was a tight game back and forth until the Hornets pulled away in the 4th quarter. The Hornets offense was led by Justyn Lester with 14 points while Jake Ruocchoi added 9 points. Adam Lefebvre had another strong game with 7 points while Gustavo Tizotti and Adam Hines both had 6 points. Mike Fowler, Zach Hines, Cam Hodgson, and Logan Singleton all contributed with strong defense and passing.

Bobcats 36 – Bucks - 26

Utilizing a balanced scoring attack and tenacious defense, the Bobcats got by a very tough Bucks team 36-26. Matt Fronduto led the way with 12 points and Evan Crowley added six. Andrew Froio, Jared Doyle, Jon Mahoney and Nick Brooks chipped in with four each. Billy Chase scored a basket and along with Tyler Strong and Sean Makenzie, contributed a number of steals which created scoring opportunities for the Bobcats.

Jazz 44 – Wizards 35

The game started out slow offensively for the Wizards with scoring from Alec Sokol, Matt Perron and Nick Cappiello.  The score at half time was Jazz 20- Wizards 8. In the second half the Wizards turned up the tempo scoring 15 points in the 3rd quarter, with scores from Sean McMahon and Xavier McShane and key rebounding from John Murphy and Owen Gilligan. Dominic Cohen, John Murphy, Owen Gilligan and Matt Perron stepped up on defense for the Wizards with steals and rebounding which helped the team close the gap of a 15 point deficit to 9 by the end of the game. Great dribbling and ball control was displayed by Xavier McShane, Sean McMahon, Nick Cappiello and Alec Sokol. Unfortunately after all the effort the Wizards were able to take, it was not enough and they ended up losing by the score of 44-35. All players never gave up and played great as a team.

The Jazz got off to a slow start Saturday against a talented Wizards team but finally pulled ahead in the second half.  Leading the way on offense for the Jazz, Derek Wallace had 10 points while Ryan Muese and Nate Wilkinson each had 8 points.  Josh Donaher contributed with 6 points, Nick Stephens and Matt Ferreira both had 4 points, and Shawn Manson and Matt Pellitier each added 2 points. Both Mike Bankowski and Jack Kenneally came close on a few great shot attempts. 

Senior Division (Grades 8-9)

Hornets   56 - Sixers      33

The Senior Hornets played and exceptional game again the Sixers and spread the scoring across the entire team. The top scorers were each hot at different times in the game insuring the lead was maintained. They got off to a fast start and never looked back. Center Ben Connors was a beast inside grabbing multiple rebounds and dropped in 12 points. Guard Matty McLaughlin’s ball control racing down the court led to 11 points, including 3 from the foul line. Also dominating the boards was forward Leo Frisella (9 points) and center Robert Page (8 points), keeping the Sixers from closing the gap. Brendan Murray used his speed on the outside and added in 6 points. The remainder of the team put in 2 points apiece: Nick Borges, Derek Steinbrecher, Sam Fortier, Daniel DeRosa, and Nolan Higgins.

Nick Zullo had his best game of the year, scoring 16 points and keeping the Sixers in the game early.  Bryan Lelos and Robbie Gilligan each scored 6 points.  Pat Carleton scored a nice 3-pointer, and Jonathan Zurawski added a basket to round out the Sixers' scoring.  Nick Catizone played tough underneath but couldn't get anything to fall.  Nick Chinappi and Jacob Cofer played solid games, setting nice picks and each grabbing a few rebounds.  Jonathan Raschella got lots of touches but no scores this week.

Timberwolves vs. Rockets

T-wolves got the tip off when Rockets deflected ball back.  Andrew Pacheco got the first basket.  Good plays and passes between teammates. Michael Lambert (4 pts.) assisted Joshua Tirrell (19 pts. – most points scored )  and Adam Deveau was great in offense scoring 10 points.  Centers Tim Patterson scored 4 pts. and Chris Chiccarrelli got the first 3 point basket scoring 11 pts. in total. Michael Sarno Jr. fought for control of the ball. Trevor Breen scored 12 pts. with assists from Bradley Denis and Bradley Richardson as forwards.

Magic44  Bobcats 27

 The Magic’s leading scorers were David Stein (11pts), Cameron Carmichael (8pts) and Steven Wilson with (6Pts).  The rest of the team chipped in with a few baskets each. The Bobcats made a few solid comeback attempts, but the Magic dug down and held on for the win. 

Saturday was capped off by a hard fought game between the Magic and Bobcats.  The Magic jumped on the Bobcats early and often, forcing the Bobcats to play from behind from the start.  Despite the final score, the Bobcats made big improvements on both offense and defense.  Defensively, Dave Pesantes recorded multiple steals while Mike Flynn, Danny Carter, and Danny Nguyen made it tough for defenders to penetrate into the lane.  Josh Snyder played tough down low, rebounding well and forcing tough shots. The Bobcats’ Ryan Nickerson, Jarryd Hickey, Nick Heinze, and John Kenney moved well without the ball on offense, creating open shots that just would not find the back of the netting.  Damian Dugan played well defensively as he blocked several shots and created a couple of three-point play opportunities. 

Bucks 45-Blazers 39

A well rounded game by the Bucks.  All players scored and all players contributed on defense in order to bring the Bucks to a 2-1 record for the season.  This year's Bucks are Raf Perez, Cam O'Hearn, Kyle Curtin, Matt Salvato, Mike Butler, Jared Ward, Jack Callinan, Chris Cordeiro, Rob Daniell and Akhil, Bagul.
