Elizabeth G. Hughes

…formerly of Tewksbury; 75

DRACUT - Mrs. Elizabeth G. (Calvert) Hughes, age 75, died peacefully on Saturday afternoon, February 8, at the Lowell General Hospital.  She was the wife of the late Walter J. Rose, who died in 2003.

She was born in Cambridge, February 2, 1939, one of three children of the late Emerton and Alice (Doherty) Calvert, and was raised in North Cambridge and Somerville.  She was a graduate of Somerville High School.  She moved to Tewksbury to raise her family, where she was also a communicant of St. Dorothy’s Church, and retired to Dracut eighteen years ago.

She was employed as a Food Service Supervisor for the Dana Home of Lexington, until her retirement.

Elizabeth was well known in the Bingo circuit throughout the Merrimack Valley, loved traveling to the seacoast, and cherished the time she spent with her family.

She is survived by three children, Charles F. Hughes Jr. and his wife Patricia of Pittsburg, PA, James P. Hughes of Dracut, and Joseph  P. Hughes of Concord, NH; her extended family James Rose of Lowell and Shawn Rose of CA; six grandchildren, Charles Hughes III of Pittsburg, PA,  William Price of Concord, NH, Katherine Hughes and  Jeffrey Hughes both of Billerica, Lyndsey Rose and Samantha Rose both of Lowell; a sister, Alice DiZio and her husband Peter of Derry, NH, and their children, Kathleen DiZio and her daughter Amanda of Derry and Peter and his wife Shauna DiZio of Manchester, NH; and many special nieces and friends.

She was also sister of the late Joseph Calvert.

Relatives and friends will be received Saturday, Feb. 15, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main St. (Rte. 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, ph. (800  in MA or 978) 851 2950.  A Memorial Prayer Service will follow on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. in the funeral home.  Springtime interment will be in St.Mary's Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Lung Association, 460 Totten Pond Road, Waltham, MA 02451 are encouraged.  tewksburyfuneralhome.com
