Lincoln-Sudbury Edges Tewksbury, 3-1

Coming into the game, both Tewksbury and Lincoln-Sudbury (LS) have had 7 wins so far this season. Both teams have proved to be powerhouses in Division 2. But, per usual, only one team could come out on top.

In this high powered battle, Lincoln-Sudbury struck first. With 7 minutes left in the period, on the Powerplay, Forward Myles Cohen tipped in a slapshot from the point to but LS up 1. Tewksbury had a chance to answer back shortly after, when Cohen took a penalty. The Redmen failed though to get any good opportunities on their first Powerplay chance.

The first period was a back and forth battle, with some good chances on both sides. Tewksbury would get multiple chances in short spans, but it seemed to be Lincoln-Sudbury's period. Tewksbury went into the locker room down by 1.

Before the first ended, LS was called for a penalty, which gave the Redmen some momentum going into the second. Tewksbury came out firing on all cylinders in the second period. Within the first couple minutes, Tewksbury blasted several shots on net, including one hitting off the crossbar, yet nothing got by LS goaltender Derek Ashe.

Finally, 4 minutes into the period, with the puck down low, Ryan Petti passed it out front to Brett Morris who shoveled the puck into the back of the net to tie up the game at 1.

But that lead was soon erased. 3 minutes later, Senior Jeff Giasullo and Junior Sean Brady have a miscommunication on a loose puck at the point. Both seemed to go for a slapshot, but neither connected. The puck slid down towards the neutral zone, and eventually was picked up by LS's Junior Lucas Morgan who broke away and scored on Kyle Paquette.

The Redmen continued on a negative streak. Already down 5 on 4 due to a penalty, Ryan Petti laid a big hit on a Lincoln-Sudbury Forward in the final seconds of the second period, and was called for a penalty, as well. The Redmen took this penalty kill into the third period with a big shift needed to keep it a one goal game.

As the third period started, Tewksbury was playing some good hockey once again. They killed off the 5 on 3, and managed to get another Powerplay just 2 minutes in. The Redmen were still unable to capitalize.

The third period, like the first, was very back and forth. Each team also had their own very close scoring chances. LS Sophomore Drew Baker was awarded a penalty shot after being hooked on a breakaway.

Baker skated down the ice but his move couldn't fool Paquette, as he made a great save to keep the game within reach.

As time ticked along, Ryan Meade found himself with a clean breakaway, with only a few minutes left, and a chance to tie it up. Meade lifted the puck high, glove side, but Derek Ashe was able to snag it out of the air.

Lincoln-Sudbury added an empty netter and sealed the 3-1 victory.

This game obviously wasn't Tewksbury's best game, as some mental errors on the ice seemed to cost them the win. They get their rematch against LS January 29th in Marlboro.

The next time Tewksbury takes the ice is tomorrow at Noon, in Methuen. The Rangers come into the game with a 4-3-3 record.
