Redmen Senior Night Against Wilmington (Live Updates)

The biggest night of the Redmen hockey season is here. Not only is it Senior night for the Varsity hockey team, but it is against their biggest rival of all. The Division 1 Wilmington Wildcats come into the game with an 11-3-7 record. Tewksbury comes into the game at 15-2-2, ranked number 1 in Division 2.

The 1st Period was very back and forth. Some great plays on both ends. The Redmen get on the board first only 2:55 into the game. A loose puck slid over to Rob Cutone who blasted a slapshot wide off the end boards. The puck took a bounce back out front for Ryan Meade who tucked the puck into the back of the net.

Some good chances throughout the period by both teams, as well as great play on the penalty kill for Tewksbury and Wilmington.

The period ended up with the Redmen up 1-0. Wilmington was outplayed by Tewksbury but not by much. Both teams will surely come out hot in the 2nd.

A great 2nd Period is in the books.

Wilmington came out very strong in the 2nd. An early Tewksbury penalty let Wilmington get some powerplay time and boy did they take advantage. Wilmington had some great opportunities in the 1:30 stretch yet they couldn't put anything home.

Finally, after dominating the first half of the 2nd, the Wildcats were on the board. Wilmington's Captain Luke Foley went on a slight breakaway and flicked a backhand past Kyle Paquette to knot the score at 1, 8 minutes in.

Wilmington was still winning the period until Cody McGowan was called for a penalty. The Redmen took advantage.

After a clear of the puck by the Wildcats, Tewksbury got back into the zone and cycled the puck. The puck eventually found its way to the stick of Ross Budryk. Budryk ripped a slapshot on net and Jack Cash tipped it past Drew Foley to give the Redmen the lead once again.

A great game of hockey so far and we still have one period to go. Can the Redmen hang on and bring home the huge W on such a big night?

Coming out red hot would be a severe understatement.

Just THREE seconds into the period, Ryan Petti scores on a pass from Colin Quinn to give Tewksbury a 3-1 lead.

Wilmington didn't seem to be phased by that goal. Only 44 seconds later Brian Cavanaugh scored for the bad guys to narrow the deficit to 1.

With just over 10 minutes remaining, can the Redmen hang on?

Wilmington ties it up! Game is tied 3-3 after Billy Falter (I believe, couldn't see the play too well) gets the 3rd puck past Paquette of the night.

5 minutes remaining in the bout.

Wow! Wilmington takes a 4-3 lead. Rob Cutone's pass to a winger while in his own zone is intercepted by Luke Foley and Foley didn't miss.

Tewksbury is now on the Powerplay! Only one to tie it up.

Wilmington kills off the penalty and takes the W. The Redmen pulled their goalie in the final seconds and Wilmington added the dagger.

Tewksbury leaves a 3-1 third period lead on the table and allows 4 unanswered goals.

The Redmen drop the game 5-3, and fall to 15-3-2 on the year.

A definite heartbreaker for Tewksbury, but hey, if you're going to lose games, lose them now and not in the playoffs.
