Joliet, Illinois
An apologetic armed robber returned his victim's $2 and fled into the night after menacing her with a pistol.

The gunman struck about 9 p.m. in the parking lot of O'Charley's Irish Pub.

Police say a woman pulled into the parking lot and was changing out of her work clothes when there was a rap on her driver's side window.

The woman rolled down her window and the knocker stuck a gun in her face and demanded her money.

The woman gave the bandit $2, told him it was all she had and started to cry. She also showed him her empty wallet.

The gunman then said he was sorry and told her he thought she was someone else before taking off.

Oh, you're right! Let me see if I can get something better for you. I'll report back (It might be a few days).

This has nothing to do with my locality. If Patch can't cover local news, then it's time to close up shop. Thank you.
Grumpy Old Man February 06, 2014 at 02:33 PM
If some of the stories you are posting on Patch are incredibly popular it only goes to prove that the Patch in Newton Minnow's phrase is becoming The Vast Wasteland.
Sherry Turkington Yarusewicz February 06, 2014 at 03:14 PM
I agree! I want news about VERNON ct!!!!!! If I wanted a recap of internet nonsense I would just watch Tosh.O... I want my local news stories back!!!!!

Tara May, Thank you and the rest of the management (what's left of them, anyway) at Patch for killing it! Also, thanks so much for being a shill and trying to sell something that's turned to garbage! At what point do you stop being a salesperson, take a step back and realize that the loss of half your staff has made Patch a shadow of what it used to be! Oh, wait, that should have gotten a question mark. But I got so caught up in all those exclamation points that I just couldn't help myself! Thank you! Thank, you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!!!!!!! (exclamation points deliberate).
John February 06, 2014 at 07:23 PM
I think Patch is going to reorganize and change their name to Ditch ....
Shirley Dicktor February 06, 2014 at 09:27 PM

John Gregory February 06, 2014 at 09:33 PM

A robber without a brain, but a heart.

Why is this in the Monroe Patch?
lillian philbin February 07, 2014 at 09:15 AM
What is wrong with Southeast Patch just being about Southeast? We are not Lohud or worse. Does anyone know how to find a story and write a decent article? And why keep showing old stories and comments. In addition there are never any responses from officials re questions concerning our town, including when we can expect pot holes to be repaired. When I first signed on I thought it would be fun. Then the election came and people were nasty and out of control. No real ideas, just insults. Anyway I'm done.

This gunman should be the poster child for the NRA
its me February 07, 2014 at 04:16 PM
why is it in Newton ma patch
John Santaella February 07, 2014 at 04:41 PM
@lmf59, is that Monroe, La.,NY, NJ,Wa,Ga, or Wi?
lmf59 February 07, 2014 at 05:03 PM
John...It is Monroe, CT. I am wondering why I am getting all these updates for every Patch in the county! I only subscribe to what I thought was my local town publication.
John Santaella February 07, 2014 at 07:12 PM
I don't know what's happened to Patch. It used to be great for info for my town in NJ. Locals could get involved in local issues. I don't care to find out about some robbery in Calif or Montana or anywhere else. This format stinks. I'm sure you don't care that my local council members are inept.

God is good, he's a working process!
Tamika Means February 08, 2014 at 10:01 AM
@Imf59, I do agree, wow!! I had to turn that notification off. is freaking ridiculous unbelievable man
Phil Brooks February 08, 2014 at 01:42 PM
Tamika, Please help... "Working process?" What does that mean, as this is a phrase with which I am not familiar? Might you mean "a work in progress," as in ongoing?
Phil Brooks February 08, 2014 at 08:45 PM
Chris, Not to worry, but Tara May, the resident Patch shill, will be along soon with her exclamation points telling you how great Patch is since they laid off half the staff! (I'll add my own :-) )
Brian Slupski (Editor) February 08, 2014 at 08:54 PM
@Phil – Patch is great!!! BTW we are putting Trending in the headline for stories that are in the Trending on Patch category from now on. Hopefully that helps! I know how frustrating it is to read an interesting story that is not from your town!!
lmf59 February 08, 2014 at 10:05 PM
It's even more frustrating to read a NON interesting story that is not from your town.
Phil Brooks February 08, 2014 at 10:30 PM
Brian, Oh, goody, another shill with a bagful of exclamation points. // So, genius, if "(you) know how frustrating it is to read an interesting story that is not from (my) town," why do you do it? // I see a career for you as a lawyer or politician as it appears you have absolutely no shame. You see all the negative comments here but you're still pounding out the propaganda and exclamation points and telling us how great Patch is even after at least half the staff was laid off and thus negatively affecting your coverage. // What say you?
lmf59 February 08, 2014 at 11:03 PM
Where the heck is Joliet, anyway?
diamondheartgrl86 February 09, 2014 at 12:06 PM
What a way to receive loyal readers by being rude to them and telling them what to read. This story was poorly written by the way. Absolutely terrible. Uninteresting, no names, very vague, and no details! To be a writer you must embellish your stories with interesting points and facts! Go back to journalism class seriously.
diamondheartgrl86 February 09, 2014 at 12:09 PM
And the way it ended was also terrible! How does it end? Was the criminal apprehended? Were police called? You should try reading some other articles from accredited actually GOOD writers and learn from them. This article is a poor excuse of a story. C'mon something more interesting.

This has nothing to do with Long Island. New York
Daniella Ruiz February 10, 2014 at 01:03 PM
