Lions Club Donates $5,000 To The Tewksbury Community Food Pantry

Lions have been a loyal supporter of the Food Pantry over the years.

According to Food Pantry Board member Todd Johnson, 2012 has been a challenging year, in part because the annual Postal Service Food Drive gathered only about one-third the donations of previous years.

"We have a more extreme need now because of diminished resources in other areas," said Johnson, adding that the food pantry serves around 250 families in Tewksbury.

Lions Club Board members Joan Toscano and Fred Baldwin were on hand Thursday to present the $5,000 check to Patty Haverstat, vice chairwoman of the CFP Board of Directors.

The Lions have been strong supporters of the Food Pantry since it opened back in 1995. Over the years, the Lions have donated a total of $45,000 to the Food Pantry efforts.

"We've been blessed to have the support of a very generous community for many years and the Lions Club is a prime example (of that generosity)," said Johnson.
