Swingin' Seniors Prepare for New Season

St. Patrick's Day Dinner set for Friday night.

Those attending the Friends St. Patrick’s Dinner Dance this Friday, March 11th are reminded that the evening’s corned beef and cabbage dinner will be served at 6:00 PM. Dancing to the music of the Entertainer’s band will follow dinner.

Tickets for the Mohegan Sun day trip of Monday, April 4th, will go on sale Monday, March 14th beginning at 8:15 AM.

A Senior Center “Cootie Party” will be held in the afternoon on Monday, March 24th at 12:45 PM. All are welcome.

Next Tuesday, March 15th, is the day that the Swinging Seniors Chorus will resume its practices for its up-coming concerts. The Chorus is always looking for new members. Why not give it a try. Practice is held each Tuesday in the atrium from 4:00 to 5:00 PM. Come on down.

The Council on Aging will hold its regular monthly meeting at the Senior Center on Wednesday, March 16th at 12:30 in the conference room.

In the evening on March 30th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, the Tewksbury Rotary Club will hold its Annual “Taste of Tewksbury” at the Tewksbury Country Club. Admission is $25 per person and includes local restaurants and a wonderful array of special food dishes to feast on along with raffles and a silent auction feature.

An activities meeting will be held at the Senior Center next Friday, March 18th at 10:00 AM. Those attending are asked to enter the Center from the back patio door entrance.

In the evening on Friday, March 18th, the Silver Tones Band will hold its monthly dance. Tickets may be purchased at the door. Admission is $10 and the doors open at 6:00 PM.

Singles and couples are welcome to attend and enjoy an evening of music. Attire is casual and refreshments are served mid-evening.

Once again, it is noted that the Silver Tones Band is seeking musicians of all ages, both male and female, to join its band. The band practices at the Senior Center on the 2nd and 4th Monday of the month; and, holds monthly dances. Dust off that instrument of the past or polish up your present one and come on down and join the band. They would love to have you there.

Red Hat Carnation Belle tickets are available for two up-coming events. The first is a Buffalo Bingo and Soup and Sandwich Night which will be held on Wednesday, March 23rd beginning at 6:00 PM. The cost per ticket is $10. Belles are asked to get tickets by March 18th.

The second Red Hat event will be a trip to the Amesbury Playhouse for a luncheon and the play “Steel Magnolias” on Sunday, April 17th. The cost of this trip is $50 per Belle and includes mini bus transportation, a dinner choice of roast beef, haddock or chicken, the play and all gratuities.

A ten week Oil Painting class with instructor, Barbara Antinoro, will begin on Thursday, March 24th at 1:00 PM. The semester fee will be $75 per person. All supplies are included except the canvases. Participants will be responsible for purchasing their own canvases. The first project will be a 16 x 20 mountain scene. If interested, please leave your name and telephone number with the receptionist at the front desk for there are still a couple of spaces in the class.

On Thursday afternoon, March 24th from 3:00 to 6:00 PM, the Board of Health will conduct a Pneumonia vaccine clinic at the Senior Center. Nurse Virginia Desmond reports that this clinic is for those residents who are 65 or older and is free of charge.

A DJ Jon Mansfield afternoon dance will be held on Monday, March 28th. Those wishing to reserve lunch must purchase a ticket by March 23rd. Tickets are $6 per person with lunch included. Tickets purchased after the 23 will also be $6 but will not include lunch.

Due to popular demand, Lee Lewis and his Doo Wop Revue will take place on Friday, April 8th.

This event was previously advertised for April Fool’s Day on April 1st. However, due to the Town Elections and the fact that the Senior Center is a poling site, the Doo Wop event has been changed to April 8th. The evening includes a wonderful show and dancing to the music of the 50’s and 60’s ….a must see event. Tickets are now available at $15 per person and are expected to go fast so be sure to a ticket early. The doors will open at 7:30 PM on the 8th with show and dancing from 8-11:00 PM with refreshments mid-evening. Tables of 8-10 people may be reserved. Leather jackets, jeans, poodle skirts…a DA will set the stage…especially during a “strole” number. A fun night is in store for all those attending.

SHINE Counselor, Jill, is at the Senior Center on Tuesdays and is seen by appointment only. To arrange an appointment, one may call the Senior Center at 978-640-4480. The SHINE Counselor is available to advise Senior Citizens on medical insurance options.

Unfortunately, all allotted slots for tax assistance have been filled and people are now being referred to the Tewksbury Library 978-640-4490. A special note of thanks is extended to our AARP Tax Assistant Volunteers who are in the process of helping well over 100 people with returns.
