Tewksbury Antique Car Show to Benefit Local Military Heroes

The event, scheduled for August 10, features a $10 entry fee.

Local Heroes may not be shipping packages overseas every week as they did for nearly week for close to a decade. But the Wilmington-based organization is still having a major impact.

The non-profit organization, which helps supported members of the armed forces both overseas and upon their return home, is hosting a car show on August 10 in Tewksbury.

Scheduled for 12 p.m., the third annual Hot Rod'n Car Show will take place from 2087-2117 Main Street in Tewksbury.

There will be a 50/50 raffle, trophies, mini golf, arcade games, music by DJ Jerry O and food during the event, which is sponsored by A A A Tire Co. and Merrimack Valley Pavilion.

There is an entry fee of $10 per vehicle, and general admission is available for donations to benefit the troops.

Local Heroes founder Lou Cimaglia, Wilmington's Veterans Agent, said that though the group doesn't meet every week to pack supplies for troops, they still do when needed.

Last week in Peabody, volunteers packed 120 packages for troops in Afghanistan. Local Heroes will celebrate its 10th anniversary in November.

"Our mission has changed. We’ve been helping these guys overseas, and now that they’re home that is our focused," said Cimaglia, who said money goes to buy gas cards, gift cards, and food cards for veterans coming home. "We’re helping them re-integrate from military to civilian life."
