Tewksbury Prepares For Third Annual Zero Waste Day

Organizers of the event want to remind everyone to start cleaning out their drawers, bookcases and closets, now.

According to organizers, it is an opportunity "to share your used, but usable "stuff" with people in need by bringing it to a central location where you can donate it to one of 14 local charities."

Beth McFadyen of the is co-chairing the event with Loretta Ryan of the Recycling Committee.

McFadyen said there is a complete listing of acceptable donations and participating charities on the website. She explained that while they do not accept toys or some sports equipment, they do need household goods and clothing.

According to McFadyen, this year's website has great information and links including 'Create Your Own Zero Waste Day.' There are business and volunteer wish lists for those who want to get involved.

In addition, McFadyen said there are two Facebook pages for the event. Users can "Like" Supporters of Zero Waste Day, Tewksbury to receive up-to-date event details or RSVP to the event at Zero Waste Day, 2011.  

She explained that also new this year, the Central Massachusetts Mosquito Control Project (CNNCP) will be collecting off rim tires from passenger and light truck tires.
