Tewksbury Residents Asked to Help Clean Up Town on Saturday

Volunteers must sign up in advance of Saturday's event.

Spring has already turned to summer. But it's still not too late for a little spring clean up.

Organizers from the Tewksbury Beautification Committee are preparing for the first annual "Clean Up Tewksbury Day," which will take place on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Volunteers are still needed, whether as a small group of friends or a larger civic organization. Participants are asked to sign up in advance of the event by visiting the group's webpage or emailing Clean.Up.Tewksbury@gmail.com.

Team captains will check in at a tent located at Tewksbury Country Club starting at 10 a.m. to receive their supplies. Anyone who volunteers will be entered to win prizes by businesses around town.

"This is a chance for people to really get out and show their pride in the town," said vice chairman Dan Elliman. "We know that litter is an issue, and with this team approach we can really make a dent."

Groups will have the chance to pick a site to clean up. They will be provided with supplies such as trash bags, gloves, safety vests, safety cones and pick sticks.

Jackie Stone, the committee chairman, said the board hopes a wide variety of residents will be represented on Saturday.

“We’re inviting all Tewksbury civic groups to have a team,” said Stone. “We’d love to see businesses, sports teams, school groups, scouts and neighborhood groups participate.”
