With Playground Now Closed for Construction, Volunteers Needed for Rebuild

A community build is scheduled for July 26 and 27 on Livingston Street.

With Funway Park on Livingston Street closed as of Monday for renovations, Tewksbury residents are being asked to plan a weekend later this month helping with the rebuild.

Residents are needed on July 26 and July 27 to help assemble new equipment under the guidance of the site director.

"No special skills required, just the desire to be a part of a great event," reads an announcement on the town website.

Tools will be supplied for the event, though organizers said they may needed a few shade tents, ladders, and various other items.

Volunteers can come for just an hour, or remain for the duration of the day. Organizers added that volunteers can come alone or as a part of a larger group.

Anyone interested in volunteering can call the Town Manager's office at (978) 640-4300 for more information, or sign up online.

The park officially closed on Monday, and site demolition and preparation was scheduled for this week.

The scheduled for the remainder of the month is as follows:

  • July 14-18 - Site preparation.
  • July 21-25 - Workers will finish site preparation and begin installing some of the smaller pieces.
  • July 26-27 - Community build weekend.
  • July 28-August 1 - The walkway, fence and handicap accessible ramp will be installed, and finishing touches and clean up will be completed.
  • August 2 - Scheduled opening day.
