Karyn, I completely agree and the kudos should go to Loretta Ryan, Beth McFadyen and theirRead More volunteers. I know they have spent many hours organizing, dropping signs, driving awareness and then finally executing a great day today. Loretta, Beth and your volunteers, thanks so much for highlighting the best of Tewksbury.

Agree! I have been saving up items waiting for this day. My favorite donation charity is the WishRead More Project but I can't seem to ever get there when they are open. I love how this event has people who take electronics, old tires, furniture, baby items, furniture, bikes, etc. I am already noting what I missed to donate at the next event!

If anyone is curious about this, I was a PAL volunteer for quite a while. I worked with the kids atRead More the House of Hope in Lowell. I had to stop because we brought some kids into our own home that needed my attention, but hope to rejoin the program in the future. This is just such a wonderful program. I still remember the day that a little girl who didn't speak for weeks (to me - she spoke to her mother) sang Twinkle Twinkle little star to me because I happened to pick up a toy microphone - It was so touching to break through and be in her trusted circle. If you have the time, these kids can use people that have the time to simpy sit with them and play WITH them - not just watch them play. :)

Bill Gilman July 17, 2012 at 01:24 am

Well, all I can say is that all I had to do was see the look on my children's faces. They were soRead More excited and had the best time watching the fireworks. So in my opinion, it was a success! And we went to Wilmington the night before and had a great time there too! My kids are too young to judge which display was "better", they just enjoyed hanging outside and being able to watch the fireworks from our yard. That's what was most important and most satisfying for this resident! Thank you to all who had a hand in the 4th of July festivities! Our family had a wonderful holiday!

i agree that the decision to start the fireworks early was the right one. I also was more than aRead More bit nervous with Mother Nature's "fireworks" were going off behind us. But I had faith that our Town Officials, Fire & Police were keeping up with the weather alerts and it's possible issues. There WAS a SEVERE thunderstorm warning issued by our Natl Weather Service for our area that night. And even tho it looked like the storms would just miss us, (and they did thank gosh!) other areas were not so lucky. Having personally experienced a storm come up from seemingly out of nowhere, with NO warning, and see a lightening bolt just miss my husband and my son's baseball team-I know first hand how fast the weather can turn, as I am sure a lot of other people have too. The celebration at the Hatch Shell with half a million people was suspended also for the same cell, and 4 people in New England were struck by lightening in the path of that same storm! I was glad the events' organizers erred on the side of safety. Having attended all the fireworks displays Tewksbury has put on since I moved here in 1994, I am sure that the original "show" would have just great. An Andover Selectmen told me that night that Atlas had put thier fireworks show on in Andover the night before and it was fantastic. NO complaints here, just thanks to all who helped organize and put on the entire 4th of July events. Susan Duffy

I'd like to reiterate my previous statement that jerry made the right call going early. I think mostRead More people (here and otherwise) understand the safety concerns and appreciate how the concern was handled. Mother nature is a fickle woman!
