PHOTOS: Bruins, Dropkick Murphys Invade Breakway Ice Center

Former Bruins participate in benefit hockey game for the Claddagh Fund.

Several former Boston Bruins, including Terry O'Reilly and Rick Middleton, visited the Breakaway Ice Center in Tewksbury earlier this month for a benefit hockey game. The event raised money for the Claddagh Fund, a fund established in 2009 by Ken Casey of the Dropkick Murphys. Middleton and O'Reilly served as guest players on one of the teams, while Bruins alums Bob Sweeney and Jay Miller skated for the opposition. Casey served as guest coach for one squad while current Bruin Shawn Thornton coached the other team. The event was sponsored by Basement Systems of Plaistow, NH. Editor Bill Gilman was on hand at the event and captured these images.

Charity hockey game at Breakaway Ice Center to benefit the Claddagh Fund.

Boston Bruins past and present, along with the rowdy Dropkick Murphys, will be on hand Saturday night at the Breakaway Ice Center, 10 Carter St., for a charity hockey game. According to fund's website (claddaghfund.org): "Honoring the three attributes of the Claddagh Ring, friendship, love and loyalty, the mission of the Claddagh Fund is to raise money for the most underfunded non-profit organizations that support vulnerable populations in our communities." Dave Hughes, the owner of Breakaway Ice Center, sits on the Board of Trustees for the Claddagh Fund. "Since Ken Casey started the fund, it…

Bring The Stanley Cup to Tewksbury!

Tell us why you believe the Bruins show make sure Lord Stanley's treasured trophy should make a stop in Tewksbury this summer.

Give credit where credit is due. Matt Schooley, the esteemed editor of our sister publication, Wilmington Patch, has launched a public relations campaign to try and convince the Boston Bruins that at some point over the next few months, the Stanley Cup should be brought to Wilmington, or more specifically, Ristuccia Rink, for a public viewing. As Matt points out, tradition dictates that the players, coaches and staff have the chance to spend at least a day with Lord Stanley's hallowed trophy, bringing it anywhere they would like. And we certainly agree that The Cup should be seen and touched and photographed by as many fans as possible. But my dear friend Matt is wrong on one key point. If the Cup is going to make an appearance in the …

If the dream of winning the Stanley Cup starts in youth hockey then they better move to Canada since that is where most of the players are from, 21 of the 32, only 4 of the players are from the USA.   more ›
