More than 1,000 residents and police officers from across the state packed Wilmington Town Common for a candlelight vigil in honor of slain MIT Police Officer Sean Collier.
On Saturday night, residents said goodbye to one of their own and police officers from across the state saluted the bravery of a member of the thin blue line who made the ultimate sacrifice. Slain Massachusetts Institute of Technology Police Officer Sean Collier's body was brought down Church Street past thousands who lined the street surrounding Wilmington Town Common and waved American flags as a part of an emotional goodbye. Collier, a Wilmington native and Somerville resident, was honored during a candlelight vigil following the procession. Members of the Collier family attended the event, and sobbed at times as their loved one was recalled. "(Sean) is such an amazing man. A better man than I will ever be. And he was taken from us too …

Thousands pack Wilmington Town Common to pay tribute to a hometown hero.
More than 1,000 residents, friends and law enforcement personnel from throughout Eastern Massachusetts packed the Wilmington Town Common for a candlelight vigil Saturday night to bid farewell and say thank you to a hometown hero. Massachusetts Institute of Technology Police Officer Sean Collier, a 2004 graduate of Wilmington High School, was gunned down as he sat in his cruiser Thursday night on a Cambridge Street, allegedly by brothers Tamerlan and Dzokhar Tsarnaev, the same men investigators believe are responsible for the fatal bombing attack at Monday's Boston Marathon. Candlelight Vigil attracts nearly 150 residents.
Nearly 150 Tewksbury residents dropped what they were doing on Saturday night to gather on the Tewksbury Town Common for a Candlelight Vigil in memory of the victims of the Newtown, Conn. school shooting. The event was organized by residents Trish Bourne and Kelly Joyce. "We can't just curl up into a ball," said Bourne. "We can't just shut off the Christmas lights and say 'That's it.' We (have to) go on. We have to take pause and we have to say a prayer and we've got to keep the people of Newtown, Conn. in our hearts." The event was also attended by Pastor Deborah Shipp of the Tewksbury United Methodist Church, Pastor Jonathan Goodell of the Tewksbury Congregational Church and Pastor Simeon Damas of the First Baptist Church, all of whom …

Event will take place Tuesday at 9/11 Memorial.
Tewksbury will be hosting a Candlelight Vigil Tuesday night, to mark the 11th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. The vigil will take place at the Town's 9/11 Memorial, located next to the Tewksbury Public Library at the corner of Chandler and Main Streets. Tewksbury residents Peter Gay and Peter Hashem were among the 93 Massachusetts residents killed in the attacks. Plaques remembering the two local men are featured in the 9/11 Memorial, while the names of all 93 Massachusetts victims are etched in bricks on the walkway of the monument. Last year, a piece of twisted steel from the World Trade Center Twin Towers was added to the memorial. The vigil will begin at 7 p.m. and will feature a speech by Larissa Gay, daughter …
