UPDATED: Tewksbury Announces Christmas Tree Pickup Schedule

Check the street list to find out when your tree will be picked up.

Tewksbury will be providing free roadside Christmas Tree pickup and disposal the week of Jan. 7. Attached, you will find a street list with the day of the week trees will be picked up on each street. The tree pickup schedule for condo complexes is as follows: If your Christmas Tree is not picked up on the appointed day, town officials recommend calling Allied Waste at 1-800-442-9006.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Well, actually, with no snow on the ground, it's not looking as much like Christmas as some of us might like. But we here at Tewksbury Patch plan to do something about that. We're putting together a gallery of decorated Christmas Trees but we need your help. We've started the ball rolling with a photo of the lovely tree in the lobby of the Tewksbury Police Headquarters. Now it's your turn! Upload a photo of your decorated Christmas Tree to our gallery. TELL US: Real vs. Artificial Christmas Trees

It's a decision families make every year - are you willing to withstand the cold, sap and needles necessary for an 'authentic' Christmas?

Sure, everyone appreciates some good holiday decor. But have you ever been tempted to take it easy on yourself and purchase an artificial Christmas tree? Purists won't go near them, but for others, the thought of chopping down a tree - leaving needles, sap and leaking water in your living room - is not their idea of a happy holiday.  Despite the hassle, real trees outsell their artificial cousins by more than a 3-to-1 margin each season, according to the National Christmas Tree Association. Bear in mind, of course, artificial trees can be reused every year. Tewksbury Patch Readers, what do you think? Mahoney's Kicks Off Annual Trees For Troops Program

A great way to show appreciate for the sacrifices made by the men and women of the military and their families.

(Editor's note: The following informationw as submitted by Mahoney's Garden Center.) Members of the Military and their families make many sacrifices, especially during the holidays. Starting this Veteran’s Day, November 11, show your support and appreciation to an active member and their family, by donating a Christmas tree through the “Trees for Troops” program. Mahoney’s Garden Centers is again the host of the Trees for Troops program in Massachusetts. To participate in the program, visit any of Mahoney’s eight locations in eastern Massachusetts beginning November 11, and purchase a Trees for Troops tree for $24.50. How Can I Get Rid Of My Christmas Tree?

You ask ... Patch Answers Question Of The Week: How can I get rid of my Christmas Tree? No need to try to find a place to dump your tree into the woods. Tewksbury will stop by and pick up your tree. However, according to members of the Recycling Committee, the pickup will be a little later than usual this year. Residents are asked to have their tree on the curb Monday, Jan. 9. All trees will be picked up between Jan. 9-13. Make sure all tinsel, ornalments and plastic bags are removed. There is no charge.

Where Does Your Christmas Tree Comes From?

You might be surprised to learn about the long strange journey your tree has traveled to get to your living room.

So, as you head out to chose the family Christmas tree, did you ever wonder where exactly it came from?  Did you ever think about how it grew so perfect or when it started its journey into your home? Well, Ken Risher of _Mahoney’s Garden Center_ can tell you all that and more about a lot of the Christmas trees available for purchase at their stores.
