The Tewksbury High School girls basketball team nearly earned a first round playoff win last week, and they have a strong core eligible to return next season.
He's fiery on the sidelines. And it provides the spark the Tewksbury High School girls basketball team needs. Head coach Mark Bradley led the Lady Redmen to the playoffs this year, and nearly helped them earn a victory over North Andover in the opening round. Veteran Tewksbury High School boys hockey coach Derek Doherty said he doesn't picture himself coaching anywhere else.
Derek Doherty enjoys winning. And he enjoys winning at his alma mater. That's why for the last 12 years and for the foreseeable future, there's no place he'd rather be. "I love to win and I love to win with Tewksbury kids," said the Tewksbury High School boys hockey coach Doherty. "It'd be pretty tough for me to go and coach somewhere else." Unfortunately for Doherty, this year he won't be able to add another state title to his resume. Tewksbury boys basketball coach Phil Conners is hoping to continue the team's recent success as his team exceeded expectations in making the playoffs this year.
Phil Conners has only been with the Tewksbury High School boys basketball program for two years. But he's already having a major impact on the Redmen. Tewksbury has made the playoffs in both seasons since Conners took over on the sidelines, including this year when the team clinched its spot on Friday with a victory over Dracut.
