Early Christmas Gift: TMHS Wrestlers Pin Historic Win On Lowell [VIDEO]

Redmen beat the Red Raiders for the first time in over 20 years, take two of three at Shawsheen Quad

The last time a Tewksbury High wrestling team beat Lowel High in a dual meet, the seniors on this year's team were, well, still in their parents' future plans. It was 1989, according to coach Brian Aylward, so TMHS had gone almost 22 years since its last win over the perennial state powers from neighboring Lowell. Until Friday night. Sparked by masterful performances from Mike Davidian and Chris London, who both pinned their opponents in the first period, Tewksbury screamed out to a 39-6 lead over the shell-shocked Red Raiders, and cruised to a 42-30 win. Unfortunately, host Shawsheen Tech took some of the shine off TMHS' big win over Lowell by coming from behind to knock off Tewksbury in the second match of the night. The Redmen rebounded…

Aylward Hopes For Continued Success On The Wrestling Mats

Tewksbury High wrestling team will feature some familiar names this season.

If Tewksbury High wrestling coach Brian Aylward has anything to worry about as his team prepares to open the 2011-2012 season Saturday at Greater Lawrence, it's the fact that the football season spilled over into the wrestling season this year. With half of his starting line-up having been wearing shoulder pads instead of singlets until this past Monday, Aylward has had precious little time to prepare his squad for Opening Day. But then again, with top wrestlers like Derek Tarpey, Dan Altavesta, Chris London and Mike Davidian still running high on adrenalin from a Super Bowl football season, Aylward hopes his wrestling squad will feed off the momentum created by the football team, and hit the ground running this weekend.
