Senate race will have a Democratic primary, and a Libertarian candidate has now announced. But still no Republican contender.
With local Republicans still scrambling to find someone to run in the race for the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by John Kerry’s appointment to Secretary of State, we do have some other contenders who have jumped into the fray. On Monday, Beverly Libertarian Daniel Fishman announced he would attempt to get on the ballot for the U.S. Senate special election. Fishman garnered more than 16,000 votes in the 6th Congressional District election last fall finishing third behind Congressman John Tierney and Republican candidate Richard Tisei. The battle for the 6th District seat is over.
Congressman John Tierney has defeated Republican challenger Richard Tisei in an extremely tight race for Massachusetts 6th District congressional seat. This has been an unusually high-profile congressional race in Massachusetts, which is considered a stronghold for House Democrats. Tierney suffered from the impact of a family scandal involving his wife, her brother and her brother’s illegal offshore gambling business. Tisei, on the other hand, climbed to popularity with his aggressive campaign, his theme of bipartisanship and his years of serving in the state legislature. No Republican can win in this most liberal state in the union. Has to be an Independent like Scott Brown, not a Republican. I agree with Bill Weld around 30% of the time but he would have been the strongest candidate--and not running. more ›
