Middlesex County Man Infected by West Nile Virus

It's the first human case of WNV in Massachusetts this year.

An unidentified man from Middlesex County is this year's first person to be infected by the West Nile Virus in Massachusetts, according to the state's Department of Health and Human Services. The man is in his 60s and lives in a community north of Boston, according to a press release from the Department of Health and Human Services Aug. 15. The man was diagnosed with West Nile Virus in late July, the release said; he remains hospitalized but is recovering. Testing earlier this summer found the virus in mosquito pools in Tewksbury and several other Middlesex County communities according to state data. UPDATED: Town Announces Change In Yard Waste Pick-Up Schedule

New pickup scheduled listed.

We had a question emailed to us this week regarding what the town was doing in relation to yard waste pick up this spring. Here is what we found out. The Town of Tewksbury has announced changes to the way yards waste will be collected this spring. The following comes from the Town web site: "Due to unforseen circumstances yard waste is being picked up differently.  Allied Waste started this week with branch pick up.  Leaf  pick up will begin next week.  The schedule will be alternating between branches and leaves until the program ends on May 25, 2012.  To see what day they will be in your area please refer to the list.  Sorry for the inconvenience."
