The Redmen senior is hoping to use a recent loss to Wilmington as motivation for the upcoming state tournament.
Derek Petti blasted home a critical goal for the Tewksbury boys hockey team on Wednesday night against Wilmington. It wasn’t, however, a night the Redmen captain will be highlighting on his impressive hockey resume. The senior is focused on the bigger picture. While the Redmen lost to the Wildcats, 3-2, in the annual addition of the rivalry, Petti played well as has become the norm for Tewksbury. “I didn’t want anything more than to win that game,” said Petti. “We’re hoping to see them again. Two years ago we lost to Wilmington and things ended up turning out pretty well.” That year the Wildcats blew out Tewksbury before the Redmen went on to a dramatic state title win. While Petti has compiled plenty of individual and team accolades …

Winthrop eliminates Tewksbury High Hockey team from MIAA state tournament, 4-0.
Unfortunately for the Tewksbury High hockey team, the 2011-2012 season ended just the way it started. On a down note. The defending Division 2 State Champion Redmen got stung early and never recovered Tuesday night, suffering a 4-0 loss to Winthrop High in their opening round MIAA state tournament game at the Stoneham Arena. Winthrop forward Matt Todisco scored what proved to be the game-winning goal just 1:09 into the first period, effectively knocking the young TMHS team right off its game plan, and things never got better after that. Two second period goals put the game out of reach and a fourth goal in the third period added insult to injury as Tewksbury's dreams of making another strong post-season run were ruined before the Redmen …

Junior forward Derek Petti scores two more goals as the Tewksbury High hockey team tops Lincoln-Sudbury, 3-1.
With Boston Latin in control of the Merrimack Valley Conference/Dual County League Division 2 title race, and a state tournament berth already tucked safely into his own team's pocket, all Tewksbury High hockey coach Derek Doherty wants is for his team to continue to build positive momentum over the final week of the regular season. Thanks to a strong goaltending performance from freshman netminder Kyle Paquette and yet another multiple goal game from junior forward Derek Petti, Doherty got just what he was looking for Saturday night as the Redmen came up with one of their strongest efforts of the season and beat MVC/DCL Division 2 rival Lincoln-Sudbury, 3-1 at the Breakaway Ice Center. "We've been playing pretty good the last couple of …

Petti tallies four times in 6-0 win.
The next time the Haverhill High ice hockey team sees Derek Petti will be too soon. The Tewksbury High sniper scored four goals to the lead the Redmen to a 6-0 pasting of the Hillies in Haverhill. Redmen explode for five second period goals en route to a 7-1 thumping of Concord-Carlisle.
Just when you thought that nobody with a last name other than Petti was ever going to score another goal for the Tewksbury High hockey team, five different Redmen lit the lamp at the Breakaway Ice Center Saturday night, sparking TMHS to a 7-1 thumping of Concord-Carlisle High School. Junior forward Patrick Doherty tallied twice to spark a five-goal, second period outburst by the Redmen, while senior forward Dan Ladderbush and sophomore forward Jack Cash scored a goal apiece. The seven-goal breakout was the biggest offensive explosion of the season for TMHS, which came into the game having scored just 12 goals in its last six games. "We came out like a ball of fire in the second period and we played very well," said TMHS coach Derek Doherty…

Derek Petti plays the hero for the third straight game as the TMHS hockey team salvages a 1-1 draw with Methuen.
There have been many high school, collegiate and professional athletes over the years who have turned to their teammates and said "Hop on my back, I'll carry you." But you'd have to search far and wide to find a high school hockey player who has done more for his team than what Derek Petti did for the Tewksbury High Redmen over the past week. "Petti Magic" struck again Saturday afternoon in Methuen, as the junior center iceman and team's leading scorer produced another spectacular goal in the final minute of the game to salvage a 1-1 tie for Tewksbury. For the second time in seven days. All Mark and Donna Petti's second son has done over the past week of TMHS hockey is to pull out a 1-1 tie with Lincoln-Sudbury by scoring his team's only …
