Foul End to Strong Season for Lady Redmen Basketball

A late intentional foul call hurt Tewksbury's chances of completing a comeback, and the locals were eliminated with a 38-34 loss.

It was a strong season for the Tewksbury High School girls basketball team. But it was a foul end for the Redmen on Wednesday night in North Andover. A controversial intentional foul call late in the North Division 2 first round game prevented Tewksbury from making one final attempt to get back in the game and helped the Scarlet Knights escape with a 38-34 win. After Tewksbury couldn't capitalize on several possessions trailing by one point, the Redmen were forced to foul with about 15 seconds remaining. When a defender fouled in hopes of getting the ball back down by at worst three points, the referee instead ruled that the foul came with no intent at going for the ball. Redmen Roundup: Redmen Claim MVC/DCL Hockey Title

Girls Basketball falls in final of Spartan Classic.

Boys Hockey Tewksbury 3, Lincoln-Sudbury 2 If teams make the mistake of thinking they can shut down the Redmen by shutting down the Petti Brothers, Tyler Slavin is more than happy to set them straight. On Monday, Slavin scored a pair of goals to lead Tewksbury to a 3-2 win over Lincolcn-Sudbury. The win clinched the MVC/DCL D-2 Championship for the Redmen. Slavin's second goal game with just 16 seconds left in regulation to snap a 2-2 tie. Dario Riparo scored Tewksbury's first goal of the game. Pat Doherty, Derek Petti, Matt Donovan, Ryan Petti and Michael Casey had assists the Redmen. Kyle Paquette earned the win in net with 15 saves. Redmen Roundup: Boys' Hockey Slams C-C, Porcaro Leads Girls Hoops

Boys basketball moves to within one victory of the State Tournament.

Boys Hockey Tewksbury 6, Concord-Carlisle 2 Tewksbury 5, Boston Latin 2 With every game, the Redmen look stronger and stronger. Led by the first line of Tyler Salvin and the Petti brothers, Tewksbury rolled over Concord-Carlisle, 6-2. Slavin led the way with two goals and three assists. Derek Petti and Ryan Petti added two goals and two assists each. Sophomore goalie Kyle Paquette earned the win in net with 18 saves. Derek Petti and Ryan Petti each finished with 2 goals and 2 assists for Tewksbury. Dario Riparo, Jeff Giasullo and Shannon Alukonis had 1 assist each for Tewksbury. Redmen Roundup: Boys and Girls Basketball Sweep Away Chelmsford

Girls win their fourth straight game to move into first place.

Girls Basketball Tewksbury 43, Chelmsford 38 The Tewksbury High girls basketball team continued its patented late-season surge, with a thrilling come-from-behind win over Chelmsford High, Tuesday night at the TMHS Gym. Senior Captain Nicole Chaet led the way for the Redmen with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Tewksbury outscored Chelmsford, 19-6 in the fourth quarter, after trailing for much of the game. Chaet scored midway through the fourth quarter to give the Redmen the lead for good. Junior Sara Semenza dropped in a game-high 13 points for Tewksbury. Junior Shannon Semenza aded seven. Redmen Roundup: Girls Basketball Making Late-Season Charge

Girls hockey stays in playoff hunt with win over Algonquin/Hudson.

Girls Basketball Tewksbury 56, Haverhill 8 Don't look now, but the Redmen are making a late-season playoff push ... again. In each of the last two years, Tewksbury has gotten off to a very slow start, only to pull things together and make the State Tournament. The same thing seems to be happening again. On Friday, the Redmen beat up on an overmatched Haverhill team, 56-8, to improve to 6-8 on the season. The game was over at halftime, as Tewksbury led, 29-3. Junior Olivia Gallella dropped in a game-high 13 points to pace the Redmen attack. Center Chelsee Porcaro added eight points and owned the paint. Redmen Roundup: Girls Hoops Team Honors McCarthy, Slams Lancers

Boys basketball comes up empty against Billerica.

Girls Basketball Tewksbury 56, Lawrence 49 The Tewksbury High girls basketball team honored the memory of the late Meghan McCarthy and picked up a much-needed victory, 56-49, over the Lancers. It was the annual Meghan McCarthy Memorial game and at halftime, McCarthy's jersey was raised to the rafters of the new Tewksbury High gymnasium. On the court, this year's Redmen proved to have McCarthy's "Tewksbury Tough" spirit as they scraped out a critical win in their quest for the State Tournament berth. The Redmen are now 5-8 on the season. Senior Nicole Chaet came up just short of a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds. Redmen Roundup: Semenza Sisters Lead Girls' Hoops Past Dracut

Boys' Basketball earns much-needed win over Middies.

Girls Basketball Tewksbury 66, Dracut 53 The Semenza sisters came up huge for the Tewksbury High girls basketball team, leading the Redmen over Dracut, 66-53. Shannon Semenza led the way for Tewskbury with a game-high 17 points. Sarah Semenza and Chelsee Porcaro added 12 points each for the Redmen. Boys Basketball Tewksbury 56, Dracut 36 The Redmen earned a "must" win in their quest for a berth in the State Tournament, 56-36 over Dracut. Tewksbury used a smothering defense to snap a six-game losing streak and improve to 5-8 on the season. Junior Kevin Dick led the way for the Redmen with a game-high 17 points. Sophomore Alex DiRocco dropped in 15.

Boys Basketball Lowell 59, Tewksbury 42 Despite the score, the young Redmen hung tough with State Division 1 power Lowell. Tewksbury got a game-high 19 points but it wasn't enough to hold back the Red Raiders, who improved to 11-2 on the season. The Redmen dropped to 4-8 with the loss. Redmen Roundup: Boys and Girls Hoops Teams Can't Handle Knights

Boys let halftime lead slip away, girls put forth great defensive effort.

Girls Basketball Andover 38, Tewksbury 26 The Tewksbury High girls gave the three-time defending Division 1 State Champs all they could handle for three quarters before falling, 38-26. The Redmen (3-7) put together their strongest defensive game of the year and did an excellent job on the boards to keep the game close. Chelsee Porcaro dropped in seven points and Nicole Hamel added six to lead the Tewskbury offense. Andover led just 18-10 at halftime but the Redmen weren't able to make a serious run in the second half. Boys Basketball Andover 78, Tewksbury 55 It was a game of two polar-opposite halves.
