Best May Be Yet to Come for Tewksbury-Methuen Girls Hockey

After a surprising run to the Division 2 semifinals in their first varsity season, the team graduates zero seniors.

The Tewksbury-Methuen girls hockey team surprised just about everyone on the high school scene with this year’s run to the Division 2 semifinal round – even themselves. In the team’s first every varsity season, the locals came out of the gates with a 2-0-2 mark to beging the regular season. It was at that point that head coach Kim Bruff said her players realized just what could be to come. “At the beginning of the season we didn’t know what we’d have. We wanted to be a competitive team, but being a first year program we had a lot to catch up on,” said Bruff. “I think initially the girls were like ‘Whoa. I thought we were going to get slaughtered.’ So when that happened, they gained a little confidence that they knew they could compete here…

Clock Strikes Midnight For Red Rangers In Loss to Duxbury

Two-time defending state champs are too much for Tewksbury/Methuen in State Semifinals.

The Tewksbury/Methuen girls’ hockey team travelled a long way, both literally and figuratively, to play in the Division 2 State Semifinals on Saturday in Bourne. Unfortunately for the Red Rangers, their game against two-time defending State Champ Duxbury High may have seemed even longer. Combining a relentless attack with a smothering defense, the Dragons overwhelmed the Red Rangers, 8-0, to advance to the State Final on March 17 at the TD Garden. Duxbury (20-1-1), which held a 48-11 edge in shots on goal, settled matters early with four goals in the first period against Tewksbury/Methuen goalie Taylor Lirakis (40 saves). They added two in each of the final two periods. Jacqui Nolan and Liz Collins had two goals each to pace the Dragons’ …

And then there was one. The final Tewksbury team remaining in the postseason skates on Monday night, hoping to continue what's been a surprising run deep into the Division 2 bracket. TMHS Girls Hockey Stomps Nowell, 10-3, In Playoff Debut

Conway, Golini lead Red Rangers into second round.

If the Tewksbury/Methuen girls hockey team was feeling any jitters heading into their first-ever playoff game, they did an awfully good job of hiding it. The Red Rangers, laid waste to Norwell High, 10-3, in the preliminary round of the Division 2 North Tournament. Sophomore Amanda Conway and 7th Grader Kelly Golini led the Red Rangers offense, as they have throughout the year. Conway scored four more goals, giving her 48 on the season. Golini notched a hat trick and added a pair of assists. Tewksbury/Methuen came into the game as the No. 20 seed in the 22-team tournament. But they played like anything but a lower seed, as they skated circles around No. 13 Norwell from the opening puck-drop. With the win, Tewksbury/Methuen (9-7-3) moves on…
