Redmen Roundup: Boys' Hockey Slams C-C, Porcaro Leads Girls Hoops

Boys basketball moves to within one victory of the State Tournament.

Boys Hockey Tewksbury 6, Concord-Carlisle 2 Tewksbury 5, Boston Latin 2 With every game, the Redmen look stronger and stronger. Led by the first line of Tyler Salvin and the Petti brothers, Tewksbury rolled over Concord-Carlisle, 6-2. Slavin led the way with two goals and three assists. Derek Petti and Ryan Petti added two goals and two assists each. Sophomore goalie Kyle Paquette earned the win in net with 18 saves. Derek Petti and Ryan Petti each finished with 2 goals and 2 assists for Tewksbury. Dario Riparo, Jeff Giasullo and Shannon Alukonis had 1 assist each for Tewksbury. Derek Petti and Pat Doherty scored two goals each to lead the Redmen to a 5-2 win over Boston Latin. The game was actually tight throughout, with the score tired 2…

Redmen Roundup: Wrestlers Pinned By Dracut, Hockey Teams Roll On

Conway notches another hat trick in girls hockey win over Newton South.

Wrestling Dracut 48, Tewksbury 21 The Redmen put up the best fight they could but they were unable to stop the Midshipmen from clinching the MVC D2 championship with a 48-21 win. There were some highlights for Tewksbury. Tim Martel earned a hard-fought 5-3 overtime win over Dracut's outstanding 182-pounder, Stig McElhinney. Joe Martell earned a pin at 120 in just 1:00. Nick Falcone scored a pinfall win at 138 in 5:05. At 195, Dan Donovan notched a pinfall win in 1:25. Redmen Roundup: Tewksbury Hockey Teams Continue Push Toward Playoffs

Boys knock off Andover, girls pick up important tie with Wayland/Weston

Boys Hockey Tewksbury 3, Andover 1 Excellent defense, stout goaltending and just enough offense carried the Redmen past Andover, 3-1. Captain Derek Petti once again led the offense with a pair of goals and an assist. Mike Casey added the third goal. Ryan Petti had two assists and Pat Doherty had one. With the victory, tournament-bound Tewksbury upped its record to 10-2-1. Sophomore goalie Kyle Paquette turned in another excellent game between the pipes, turning aside 23 shots in the win. Redmen Roundup: Girls Basketball Making Late-Season Charge

Girls hockey stays in playoff hunt with win over Algonquin/Hudson.

Girls Basketball Tewksbury 56, Haverhill 8 Don't look now, but the Redmen are making a late-season playoff push ... again. In each of the last two years, Tewksbury has gotten off to a very slow start, only to pull things together and make the State Tournament. The same thing seems to be happening again. On Friday, the Redmen beat up on an overmatched Haverhill team, 56-8, to improve to 6-8 on the season. The game was over at halftime, as Tewksbury led, 29-3. Junior Olivia Gallella dropped in a game-high 13 points to pace the Redmen attack. Center Chelsee Porcaro added eight points and owned the paint. Redmen Roundup: Girls Hockey, Wrestling Both Fall to Billerica

A daily roundup of Tewksbury High athletics.

Wrestling Billerica 47, Tewksbury 33 The Tewksbury High wrestling team's recent momentum came to a screeching halt with a loss to Billerica. Mike Donovan picked up a win at 126 by pinfall in just 26 seconds. Todd Karey earned a win at 132 by pinfall in 1:45. Nick Falcone gained a win at 138 by pinfall in 1:23. Nick Jansen scored a major decision win at 220, 10-1. Girls Hockey Billerica 3, Tewksbury/Methuen 0 Billerica High became the first team to completely shut down Amanda Conway and the Tewksbury/Methuen offense in a 3-0 win. The Indians limited the Red Rangers to just 13 shots. With the win, Billerica improved to 10-3-1. Red Rangers goalie Taylor Lirakis made 33 saves in the loss. Tewksbury/Methuen dropped to 4-6-2 with the loss.

Redmen Roundup: Boys Track Places Third At State Relays

Boys ice hockey team outguns Methuen, 6-4.

Boys Track Division 2 State Relays The Tewksbury High boys track team turned in an outstanding effort over the weekend, placing third at the Division 2 State Relays. The Redmen finished with 32 points behind Woburn (37) and Reading (33). Tewksbury got second place finishers from the Distance Medley team of Brian Amaral, Roy Felix, Nick Souza and Cory Thomas and the Long Jump team of Cory Cataldo, Roy Felix and Kevin Jones. Both team's set new school records in the process. Also placing second was the Shuttle Hurdles team of Cory Cataldo, Kevin Jones, Eddie Matovu and Dom Rosado. The Sprint Medley of Cory Thomas, Roy Felix, Joe Poli and Cory Cataldo placed third. The Shot Put team of John Fiorello, Steve Defrancesco and James Aronson placed…

Redmen Roundup: TMHS Wrestlers Win Thriller Over Haverhill

Boys and girls hockey teams tumble vs. Lincoln-Sudbury.

Wrestling Tewksbury 32, Haverhill 30 The Redmen won a thriller over the Hillies, with the meet coming down to the final match of the day at 285 with Tewksbury's David Morris taking on Haverhill's Matt Haskell. The two big men kept the crowd on the edge of their seats through three periods, with Morris pulling out a heart-stopping 10-9 victory to give the Redmen the meet victory. Other winners for Tewksbury included: Mike McAteer at 106 by forefeit, Joe Burger at 145 by pinfall, Broc Dokos at 170 by pinfall (1st period), Tim Martel at 182 by pinfall in overtime and Dan Donovan at 195 by forfeit. Redmen Roundup: Boys Hockey Wins, As Petti Hits Milestone

Girls hockey gets back on the winning track.

Boys Hockey Tewksbury 5, Boston Latin 1 It took Derek Petti less than a minute to take care of the milestone and his teammates only slightly longer to disaptch Boston Latin, 5-1, on Saturday. Petti scored the first of his two goals just 30 seconds into the game, giving him 100 points for his high school career. The victory improved the Redmen's record to 7-1-1 on the season and ran their unbeaten streat to eight games. Kyle Paquette turned in another tremendous game in net for Tewksbury, turning aside 30 shots. Ryan Petti, Mike Casey and Dario Riparo added single goals in the win. Redmen Roundup: Girls Track Runs Past NDA, Boys Hockey Cruises

Girls hockey dealt first loss of the season.

Girls Track Tewksbury 52, Notre Dame Academy 34 The Redmen ran past NDA thanks to strong performances throughout their roster. Tewksbury took sweeps in the 50 hurdles, 50 dash and 300 and victories in three other events. In the 50 hurdles, Kelly Quigley took first (7.7), followed by Jess Amadee (7.9) and Ashley Callahan (8.0). In the 50 Dash, it was Christine Baptiste taking first (6.7), followed by Paige Winn (6.8) and Kelsie Bradley (6.8). In the 300, it was Jen Shultz taking first (42.1), followed by Kendall Paolella (44.6) and Taylor Laycox (45.2). Redmen Roundup: Boys' and Girls' Ice Hockey Teams Continue Their Hot Play

Boys basketball team can't overcome slow start against Haverhill.

Boys' Basketball Haverhill 76, Tewksbury 52 The Tewksbury High boys' basketball team played a strong second half Friday night at home against Haverhill. Unfortunately, it came after one of their worst halves of basketball this season. The Redmen fell behind 46-16 after two quarters and fell to the Hillies, 78-52. It was the first loss at home this season for the Redmen (4-4). Kevin Dick had 11 points to pace the TMHS offense. Haverhill got a game-high 28 points from Matt Jameson. Junior guard Kevin Dick's 11 points led Tewksbury, which fell to 4-4 and will next host Central Catholic on Tuesday.
