Redmen Roundup: Thomas Breaks 38-Year-Old School record

Boys ice hockey team hangs on for victory over Hillies.

Thomas Breaks School Record In The Mile at MSTCA Meet Cory Thomas put forth his best run of the season in one of the biggest track meets of the year. Thomas placed third in the Mile at the Mass. State Track Coaches Association Meet over the weekend at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston. Thomas' time of 4:22.68 shattered a 38-year-old Tewskbury Memorial High record that had been held by James Stronach. "Cory is getting stronger and stronger. Coach (Peter) Fortunato has done a tremendous job with him," said Coach Bill Meuse. "Cory has been terrific all season, but is starting to reach another level. Redmen Roundup: Girls Hockey Stays Unbeaten, Blanks Belmont, 3-0

Conway continues scoring rampage with fourth hat trick.

The best kept secret in girls' high school hockey may well be the Tewksbury/Methuen Red Rangers. The Red Rangers remained unbeaten on the season (3-0-2) with a 3-0 whitewash of Belmont High on Wednesday. Taylor Lirakis continued to be a brick wall between the pipes for Tewksbury/Methuen, finishing with 35 saves to post another shutout. The offense, as it has much of the early season, came off the stick of Amanda Conway, who posted her fourth hat trick. Through five games, Conway has a jaw-dropping 13 goals and one assist. Kelly Golini added two assists and Kathleen LeFebvre had one assist in the win over Belmont. Despite being unbeaten, Tewksbury/Methuen has yet to crack the Boston Globe Top 20. Tewksbury High and Methuen High To Form Co-Op Girls Hockey Team

Team will be the latest addition to the MVC/DCL Conference.

Tewksbury High has a new building and a new principal -- now comes a new athletic program. TMHS is making preparations for its first season of girls' ice hockey. Actually, the Redmen will be joining forces with longtime MVC rival Methuen High to form a co-op team to compete in the MVC/DCL conference. Methuen is just starting a program too, so they are in the same boat we are," said TMHS Athletic Director Brian Hickey. "We're excited. We've been good partners in the MVC for years." Co-op programs have become commonplace in high school hockey, as a means of maintaining the health of a program while keeping costs down. In Methuen High, Tewksbury has a partner that owns and operates an ice arena on its own campus, which will make the program …
