Redmen Roundup: Tewksbury Edges Stoneham, 4-3 For Second Win

Petti paces hockey team with two goals; Dracut ends girls track team's long winning streak; boys track team loses in final event.

Junior forward Derek Petti scored two goals and assisted on a third as the Tewksbury High hockey Redmen built on the momentum from their successful home opener and beat Stoneham, 4-3 Monday afternoon, for their second win in the last three days. Petti got Tewksbury on the board in the first period, then PJ Mugford, Alex Hamilton and Petti all scored in the second period to extend Tewksbury's lead to 4-1. Stoneham stormed back with two goals in the third period but freshman goaltender Kyle Paquette and the Redmen defense stood tall down the stretch and preserved the win. "It wasn't our best game," TMHS coach Derek Doherty said. "But it wasn't too bad, either. We let them back in it, but that's our inexperience showing." For Petti, who was …

Can TMHS Girls Track Team Carry On The Tradition?

Bridle, Hogan will lead Tewksbury in defense of eight straight MVC Division 2 titles.

When it comes to running girls track in a Tewksbury High uniform, senior captains Jess Bridle and Sarah Hogan know only one thing -- winning. In their first three years on the TMHS roster, Bridle and Hogan have been huge contributors to a program that has won the Merrimack Valley Conference Division 2 championship every single year. But as the pair of speedsters prepare for their fourth and final season on the TMHS track team, they will be asked to defend a string of eight straight MVC titles without the help of perhaps the strongest graduating class in coach Peter Molloy's eight-year tenure at TMHS. When the graduation caps were tossed last June, some of the highest profile names in Tewksbury High track history were among the crowd. All-…

Caprio Sets Javelin Record, TMHS dumps Dracut

Redmen girls improve to 5-0 in dual meets with 86-59 win over Dracut.

Poor Brittany Pandolph. The 2010 Tewksbury High graduate has barely settled in at Bentley University, and already the school record she set in the javelin toss last spring has been shattered. Blame Andrea Caprio, the TMHS senior javelin specialist, for erasing Pandolph's record less than a year after it was set. Caprio fired off a monster toss of 123' 8" in Dracut Wednesday afternoon, besting Pandolph's old mark by 10 inches and sparking the Tewksbury High girls track team to an 86-59 win over Dracut High. "It's funny," said Tewksbury High coach John Byrnes. "Sometimes school records will last 10 or 12 years, and sometimes they come in clusters. Usually when they come in clusters it's part of a good work-out group, and both Pandolph and …

TMHS Boys Take Third At Division 2 Relays

Kirby, sprinters lead boys while Caprio, Clark and Spinelli set javelin record.

On a state-wide level, the Tewksbury High boys track team isn't over-loaded with superstars. Aside from senior sprinter Anthony Arcari and senior all-purpose man Richard Kirby, there aren't many TMHS athletes who are a legitimate threat to win an individual Division 2 state championship this spring. But what the Redmen do have is depth, and plenty of it, which came in very handy at Saturday's Dvision 2 State Relays at Whitman-Hanson High School. Led by the first-place 4x200-meter relay team of Kirby, Pat Bernardo,  Arcari and John DiGiorgio, the Tewksbury boys placed in the top six in eight different events and piled up 42 points, good for a somewhat unexpected third place finish in the meet. Mansfield won the state relay title with 73 …
